Heh, when I did a study abroad in Moscow they warned us that if a random person approached you to ask the time, just say "ne znayu" (I don't know) and walk away. Because they're trying to catch out foreigners who don't calculate fast enough.

People still have a very WWII-generation idea of what aging looks like. Today's 40-50somethings do NOT look like they did in the 1950s. Or in the Golden Girls for that matter. Those characters weren't that much older than me at the start of the run and I sure don't look like that...

I've only taught very beginners and very advanced students so I've actually missed the levels where they ask a lot of those questions. We did have one beginner student who we think may not have been literate in his first language, and that was a challenge.

Yeah, our Fit was $24k CAD before the big car price inflation of the pandemic (bought in 2018) and also has tremendous gas mileage. Hubs has a 20-30 minute commute one way and only fills up once a week. His co-workers with SUVs fill up like every other day.

Unfortunately I've always known that would happen to some extent. I've been a part of so many social movements that gained huge momentum but then people dropped them when the going got tough or became inconvenient. I'll still be hanging in there refusing the stuff.
