For more than a decade, @ucb_eecs professor Stuart Russell has been ringing the alarm about autonomous weapons, warning that we should act immediately to regulate them.Russell has tried many approaches to deliver this message, including producing “Slaughterbots,” a short film that depicted the dangers of a world with wildly proliferating AI weapons.“Everyone needs to understand what’s going on,” says Russell. Perhaps, he says, if more of us understand what is at stake, the laws can begin to catch up to the technology.Russell literally wrote the textbook on AI that generations of experts have learned from.
