Misty fall days up here by the sea. Am in the mood for something super #cozy very #nostalgic all wood burners, teapots in cosies, bookshops, baking and slow burn romance. And make it #queer. Preferably in the #YA #crossover or #NA space. #amquerying #writing #publishing #cosy #cozy #romance

Meetings are largely between agents, editors and those international rights, authors and illustrators can get a lot out of the fair but usually just soaking up the atmosphere, meeting friends and going to portfolio reviews. The best way to find an agent is through the traditional submission process!

The #DACBA team are off to Bologna! It's a week of meetings, book buzz and, of course, gelato! Here for any questions or curiosities about what goes down at a #bookfair. Ask away!

I'm open to most things but actively DO NOT WANT: climate fiction, pro-religious texts and as always, any author that is not writing to uplift every child regardless of family, heritage, body, heart or soul.

And more niche - I'd love a cult story, a truly scary atmospheric ghost story (Think Dark Matter by Michelle Paver), The Traitors in a book, an Ace protagonist, a Yellowjackets horror and a sarky voice driven teen contemporary about Middle School and how hard it is!

And all the way up to Crossover and #NA - more of the same! College level stories. Cosy, epic, heartwarming romance.

On the other hand I am all about hook and high concept! Big story, page turners, speculative, thrillers, dark academia! I am really desperate for a closed system YA (think competition/rules based thrillers) Dystopian or contemporary. Must be super compelling and leave you a little breathless!

#YA! I really love YA but I like it a little off beat. Straight romantasy - prince and princess stories might not be for me - but give me queer, cozy and quirky and I am your agent! I want wow level writing and stories to sink into.

#MG! Everyone is saying Middle Grade is tough right now but I can see it picking up soon! Please send me your sweeping magical adventure stories, voicey protagonists, spy stories and adventure thrillers. I want HOOK (and then you've got me line and sinker!)

I'm being super selective at the moment but I would love to see texts that pack a punch, make me laugh or catch my breath. In this space - think Sam Usher, Mikey Please, X. Fang and Erika Meza. Incredible palettes, distinctive design and show stopper storytelling!

Illustrators! 🎨I am always on the hunt for amazing author illustrators of any and all age range. My tastes are wide ranging - from atmospheric and whimsical to bright and bold. But I like to see the hand behind the art and I want STORY in every piece!

After a super buzzy invigorating LBF week (and now that I'm taking a breath back in the Scottish hills) I'm thinking a little about my #MSWL and updating what I want! So - here's what I'm actively looking for at the moment.

Hello and happy #KidLitArtPostcard day! I’m a #kidlit #illistrator and #author, and I’d love to work with you on just about any kid lit related project! BB, PB, editorials, MG, and YA, I enjoy it all. Rep’d by @beccalangton.bsky.social of @da-childrens.bsky.social

Children’s book cover design for a western version of Cinderella. The scene takes place in a park. Cinderella’s fairy godmother is on the left, hovering above the ground with her wand out. She looks like a cute little black grandma in a plaid skirt with a puffy bun in her white hair. Cinderella is a little black girl with two braids, dancing with delight as her fairy godmother magically changed her clothes into jeans, a fancy blue western vest, cowgirl hat, and riding gloves, with sparkling cowgirl boots on her feet. She holds a lasso in her hands, twirling it above her head. Beside her, a buckskin horse looks on with delight.

The baking I enjoy most is late at night, by myself with a classic British procedural on in the background. It's niche but it's my niche! (and long story but my audition bakes were a disaster - I didn't take it personally)

And on the other end of the spectrum I'm looking for page-turners, (not near-future) dystopias, locked room thrillers, dark academia, high stakes, rule driven stories that make you FURIOUS if someone interrupts you. (Queer preferred) romance is a nice to have not necessary.

Tuesday and I'm thinking a bit about my #mswl I'm feeling *cosy* at the moment. I want stories that are all vibes and textures. Driftwood, oak floors, cobbled streets. Everything from PBs to NA give me your stories that are curl up in the corner, low stakes, hot coffee.

Monday Morning from Scotland. Started off with a quick dip 🥶 before jumping into the day: two contracts, a debut deal negotiation, a presentation for a uni talk still have 2 edits and a Query Manager box which is full of fun things. Busy busby but super charged on sea swimming and coffee!

Oh! And of course. The people I work with and the projects I champion celebrate every reader regardless of ethnicity, experience, gender or their physical body. I choose not to work with creators who aren’t champions of all children and their families.

Sleepless in Seattle is tied with Hairspray for my favourite film. The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets is my favourite book. David Tennant is my doctor. Police Procedurals are my comfort watch.

I once starred in Oliver! The Musical as one of Fagin's Boys. I even had a speaking line. "Ain't there no more sausages?" To which Fagin replied "Shut up and drink yer gin!" I live by this sound advice. My first dog's brother was adopted by an England goalie's wife's sister.

I live by the sea and very often jump into the sea. It's never as cold as you expect but sometimes it does feel like lots of tiny little knives all over your skin. It's exhilarating! Despite the above fact I don't know any lyrics to any songs apart from all of Matilda the Musical.

I ran 100km once! It was horrible! Never again (unless maybe I change my mind) I am in the top 0.1% of Sigrid's Spotify listeners. I have merch. I've seen her live more times than I have fingers. This is me at my most unhinged.

A little about me I guess? I feel like I don't even know where to start so, maybe in the middle? I got a couple of rounds into auditions for GBBO (Aka The Great British Baking Show) and the judges said that I was "EXCELLENT & a LOVELY PERSON but could I just get better at baking across the board?"
