A Perfectly Normal Amount of Tea from Friday Afternoon Tea, MEM Tea, and white2tea. I can spell out what all the visible packets are if you need me to but I'm on mobile and this is a keyboard job.

I have just been handed a congrats card for a coworker who is going to another institution and you need to see it.
A llama (alpaca?) with rainbow bangs and mane, wearing a rainbow necklace, in front of a blue sky and a rainbow. This has been captioned "Llama tell it to you straight!" The inside text is "You're a rainbow of wonderful." This is quite possibly the gayest piece of stationery I have seen in my life up to and including Pride accessories. Assigned Queer By Stationery.

I may have other things I should be doing 📚
Somebody, possibly me, possibly with too much time on her hands, has constructed a wall out of boxes of new books for the library. It is about (eyeballs badly) 4 feet wide and 4 feet high? Library experts will note that most of the boxes come from Gobi, who ships books in temptingly brick-shaped and very sturdy boxes. Some creative fitting has been done with other sizes of boxes. There is even a window.

tumblr post from user @shock, January 16 2020. A wolf is lying on a dining bench in a similar posture to the dog this post is replying to. The captions read "You're now lying in the breakfast nook. Do you think that's acceptable wolf-like behavior?" The wolf remains unbothered.

it's called NETWORKING
Jeremy smiled. "Tell them the best way to curry my favor is to buy my wife's sauce."

Chloe turned to him. "Jeremy," she said urgently, "you can't do that. That's nepotism."

Jeremy tilted his head toward her and raised an eyebrow. "So? The entire House of Lords is literally nepotism-as-government. It's not my fault. I didn't make the rules."

"Be that as it may," Chloe said sternly, "using your position that you obtained through nepotism to do more nepotism is unacceptable."

"Think about it from my point of view." Jeremy gave her his best smile. "If I can't employ a little nepotism to favor my friends and family, who can I favor with nepotism?"

"Agh." Chloe put her head in her hands.

@courtneymilan.com influenced me to try white2tea so obviously I had to dig one of her books out of the to-read to go with it (I have a normal amount of tea samples, I don't know what you're talking about)
Fancy tray with teacup; glass teapot with green tea; small paper bag labeled "cloud mist green"; and library copy of The Duke Who Didn't by Courtney Milan. No library books were harmed during the taking of this photo as I am a librarian and therefore a professional w/r/t book-tea interactions

Next up in Upsettingly Damaged Household Items, the power supply for the shipping scale at work, which until about ten minutes ago was plugged in in this condition into a power strip under a table surrounded by piles of loose paper. This is fine.
A power adapter block, crushed by unknown forces. One corner is broken off. The prongs are dangling ominously on little green wires: one still attached to the broken off corner, one naked before an uncaring universe. It looks like the kind of thing the USCPSC would put in an instructive shitpost.

Set myself a reading goal of 100 books this year; realized in February this would mean about 2 books a week; figured I wouldn't hit it and that was fine because goals are made up. Anyway.
A StoryGraph "books and pages read over time" chart. The previous high point is 2016, with 99 books. There's a big drop during 2020-2023; 2024 is 50 books. 2025 is 100. It is late October and my goal was 100 by the end of the year.

Undecided if "the Stone of Erech was originally written as a palantir" means it was a big-screen palantir or if it was normal size and thus a much more reasonable thing to chuck in your bug-out boat HoME 8, "Many Roads Lead Eastward")
'Another thing I learned. There are other Stones yet preserved in this ancient land. One is at Erech. Thither I will go. To the Stone of Erech, if we can find the Paths of the Dead.'

Good morning to everyone except Jackass
Post by username unmutedlark with a diagram of the muscles of the human upper back and neck, labeled"medically accurate muscle chart". A big shoulder muscle is labeled "absolute fuckwaffle." Center lower back is "and then there's this asshole." Center upper neck back is "traitor." The bit that runs from behind your ear down the side of your neck is "jackass." I don't know what any of these muscles actually are but I think about this post every time I fuck up this malfunctioning human meatsuit by doing something like "sleeping funny" or "existing non-ergonomically." Ow.

patch notes: reduced stench, updated inventory (HoME 8, "Kirith Ungol")
Here he first described the reek from the tunnel in these words: 'Out of it came a stench: not the sickly odour of decay from the meads of Morghul, but a choking rankness, noisome, a reek as of piled and hoarded filth beyond reckoning, tainting even the open air with evil.' But he queried in the margin whether this description was not too strong: if the stench had been so unendurably horrible even from outside 'would they ever have gone in?'; and replaced it immediately with the description in TT (p. 326). He hesitated too about the width of the tunnel. My father was apparently concerned here with the problem arising from having only two hands.

there he is! (HoME 8, "Faramir")
(A new character has come on the scene Faramir, the brother of Boromir) – and he is holding up the ‘catastrophe' by a lot of stuff about the history of Gondor and Rohan (with some very sound reflections no doubt on martial glory and true glory): but if he goes on much more a lot of him will have to be removed to the appendices where already some fascinating material on the hobbit Tobacco industry and the Languages of the West have gone.

patch notes: Gandalf now 20% more polite (HoME v. 8 The War of the Ring, "The Road to Isengard")
'A strange one to my eyes,' said Théoden.

'What kind of creature may it be?'

'It is long since you listened to tales by the fireside,' answered Gandalf; ‘and in that rather than in white hairs you show your age, without increase in wisdom. [footnote 16] There are children in your land that out of the twisted threads of many stories could have picked the answer to your question at a glance. Here comes an Ent, an Ent out of Fangorn, that your tongue calls the Entwood'[16] This extremely squashing (and revealing) remark of Gandalf's to the King of Rohan was subsequently very firmly struck through on the manuscript.

Reading History of Middle-Earth (as you do) and I guess I understand why this was cut but also, it's hilarious
'It is a pity,' said Legolas, ‘that Gandalf cannot go before us with a bright flame, and melt us a path.'

'It is a pity that Elves cannot fly over mountains, and fetch the Sun to save them,' answered Gandalf. ‘Even I need something to work on. I cannot burn snow. But I could turn Legolas into a flaming torch, if that will serve: he would burn bright while he lasted.’

'Spare me!' cried Legolas. ‘I fear that a dragon is concealed in the shape of our wizard. Yet a tame dragon would be useful at this hour.'

'It will be a wild dragon, if you say any more,' said Gandalf.
