Katherine of Aragon’s grave covered in wreaths a few days ago. I like to think she would have appreciated both the sentiment and the pomegranates….and the fact she is named as Queen of England 😉 Anne Stanhope who features in my new book began her life at court in Katherine’s service.

To mark the death of Henry VIII on this day in 1547, @bec1926.bsky.social has written a post over on The Tudor Notebook. If you're more interested in the birth of his father, Henry VII, on this day in 1457, then I recommend @nathenamin.bsky.social post! open.substack.com/pub/amymcelr...

A type of cheesecake maybe? A Tarte Bourbonnaisse has a cream cheese filling and is usually closed….? I think it can be either savoury or sweet depending on what is added to the filling, eggs flour, herbs, spices etc.

I love this panel on the Battle of Lewes memorial. Yesterday was spent studying the priory records - where the king’s forces retreated and where in the 1800’s the bodies of hundreds of those killed were uncovered.
A carved panel reading:
Law is like fire for it lights.

Thanks. Would it be common for such a ban to be in place do you know rather than just a warning? Sorry for all the questions it just seemed so random it caught my attention :)

The 1400’s - I want to say specifically the 1490’s but I would need to double check. I’ve been researching convents in the late med/early Tudor period.

I keep meaning to try this recipe - it looks yummy. I came across a random reference the other day to raw apples being banned in convents - so you have any thoughts as to why?
