Alright… this might actually work out. At least my first sketched out linework seems like it has promise. What to do next with this… well, that’s a tomorrow problem. If in doubt I do have someone with a BFA in the house so I can always throw out an SOS if things get really dire.

I loved this card. Built a goblin deck around it and stuff like Goblin Medics and obviously Kyren Sniper too. Just durdled around, not attacking, but just catching more Moggs and blow-darting to the death.

It’s not quite yet at a 1:1 as the list I put together on cube cobra (cubecobra.com/cube/list/Fo...) but it’s playable! My first actual physically “complete” cube. Idea is to smash Serra Angels, Shivan Dragons and Force of Natures into each other so there’s five of each of those!

Yeah, I almost had the Stone Rain in there for him, but at the last minute he decided he wanted to make room for the Wisps. Which did actually work out: I wasn’t sure it was worth it with black being a splash. I didn’t realise he had the tranquility in, either: I think he was wary of Bad Moon.

The BR deck was mine — I zeroed in on that pretty quickly. He did BRG. I think there was a pretty scary WG deck possible, but I tried to seperate white in my splits and he is less experienced with the cards and limited as a whole. Here’s what we had left over: maybe I shoulda splashed for the dib?

Tested out my new “fourth edition revised” cube tonight. Tried a Solomon draft with the teen. Good fun: drafting process was interesting, helped him assemble a deck from his pool (I have the advantage of being alive when these cards were printed!) and played a couple good back-and-forth games.

Pool was wins vs Rector Peebles, Stasis and Sligh. Lost to WR Slide. Quarters was FEB, Semi Sligh, and Final Monoblack Control. 20 players all up — just a small casual group of peeps. But there’s some pretty highly skilled peeps so just making it out of the pool stage is a pretty good achievement.

I’ve stopped messing around with lists on Cube Cobra because I’ve got a couple I’m happy with and I’m concentrating on building those first, and actually playing with them, rather than potentially getting distracted and being forced to start assembling something else instead. Common issue? Probably.

This cube is designed with the sole aim of smashing Sengirs into Serras… have five copies of each of the big iconic creatures per colour. Llanowar and Wild Growth hopefully should let Force get into the fray a little bit earlier to make up for not having flying! We’ll see in a week or so I guess!

Made it into the Top 8 of APAC24 with UG Madness. 2-1 win vs Fruity Pebbles, 0-2 loss against WR Slide, 2-1 win vs Sligh, 2-0 win vs Stasis. Cool games! Looks like I’m up against HFEB in the quarters. Counterspells enough to protect me? Feels like a pretty tricky matchup though.

My geography knowledge of the USA isn’t perfect, but I’m not surprised that there’d never been a Grand Prix Anchorage. The other 16 states seem to be smaller ones in the North East (like Maine), more sparsely populated, central states (like Kansas), and poorer southern states (like Mississippi).

Shockingly, Pro Magic is skewed pretty heavily towards the US. New Zealand and Salt Lake City both had held the same number of GPs, for instance. Which is considerably less than California. So I thought I’d check the numbers for other states… and we’re still doing better than Alaska or Kansas!

So… if you wanted to go for something a little bit unusual, and hear me out here, the non-full art BFZ lands from the intro packs. People will be familiar with these arts, especially if you go for the reprinted cup islands from ZEN (etc) but purposefully choosing these versions of them… it’s weird.

As much as I dig old frame and/or white border… I think something in the post M15 frame probably is going to be best. Because scrolling through what cards you’re planning to is (are those the printings you have/want?) they seem to overwhelmingly be post M15. Which means you have tons of options.

Best art in Magic bar none. Well… it is pretty cool, and I just wish that it was a little bit more playable. Granted, it hasn’t been all that long since WoTC gave us an instant speed Divination but 1 extra mana is kinda huge. Oh: 7th edition art is pretty choice too actually.
