1) It’s a thought experiment. They tend to be simple and unrealistic. If you don’t want to actually let that experiment happen in your thought, so may be it. 2) Talk to any person who studied psychology and they'll tell you you’re wrong. 3) Well, I hope so! I'd still be more worried than before.

Eehm, yes? But my level of worry would _also_ go up quite a bit

Sad, I would've hoped for a more productive response than that 🤷 (Like: Surely, in the scenario where the aliens arrive and knock at your door first, and you show them cats, this isn’t with certainty the only possible world path from then on. But if you’re not willing to engage in this, fine :))

Would you be worried about superintelligent aliens arriving on earth? They dont have any resources or anything. They just have an IQ of 300, there's 20 of them, and they collaborate about as good as smart and nice humans. Would that worry you in any capacity?

umm, please do that?! Sounds like it would fit the Security Capacity Buildout specification of project Tailwind well enough, for example (coefficientgiving.org/tailwind/ini...)? I'd love to see this being built. Also happy to support with writing up the grant application or so :)

I think an okay heuristic is that if you think you need a super well-tailored resume, the person hiring you doesn't know you well enough (yet). And that’s your biggest lever

Fair, then nothing to add. (maybe giving the job chapter of designing your life a read is sill gonna be helpful on a micro-level for approaching networking, but you might be already doing that) All the best for the search! :)

Not in German! And in English you can write it without spaces, both of which let you distinguish your writing against the very consistent ' — ' of LLMs (for now)

It's very exciting that AI can now take substantial real-world software like zlib and prove it correct (github.com/kim-em/lean-...). @kirancodes.me found a bug by fuzzing, but it was outside of the boundary of what was verified (kirancodes.me/posts/log-wh...). That doesn't diminish the excitement!

Lean proved this program was correct; then I found a bug.
AI agents are getting very good at finding vulnerabilities in large-scale software systems.

I've had some GNOME issues again, and did a very small writeup:GNOME Wayland Desktop Portal/Nautilus/Screen Sharing Issues #GNOME #Linux #Wayland #Desktop
Over the last week, I learned that it's possible to have multiple desktop portals (_implementations_, I guess?) for Wayland active, and even specify which one to choose for which to choose which one.

This is what this looks like:

```nix title="home.nix"
# ...
    xdg.portal = {
      enable = true;
      extraPortals = [
        pkgs.xdg-desktop-portal-gtk
        pkgs.xdg-desktop-portal-gnome
      ];
      config.common = {
        # for files, mainly, since my nautilus takes ages to load
        default = "gtk";
         # screen sharing doesn't work otherwise on GNOME
        "org.freedesktop.impl.portal.ScreenCast" = "gnome";
        "org.freedesktop.impl.portal.RemoteDesktop" = "gnome";
      };
    };
# ...
```

But yeah, I only got it to work after basically writing the whole repo by hand, then asking it to distill the learnings into a skill, and then adjusting the skill some more.

I just spent 1 1/2 hours reading this absolutely amazing blog post by @iankduncan.com: www.iankduncan.com/engineering/... And if you're likely to get nerdsniped by me mentioning #distributedsystems, #functionalprogramming, you definitely should read it too.

Just discovered an actually-useful Nutrient Ranking Tool, and thought I'd share :) #Nutrition #LessWrong #AminoAcids
I just found something pretty cool: A nutrient ranking tool which one can use to filter for basically any ingredient across lots of sources with lots of filters.

Here it is:

My Food Data | Nutrient Ranking Tool

(I discovered this through reading this nice article on glycine on LessWrong)

Hope it helps!

PSA: If you're writing CSS, value simplicity, and don't know about Fluid (Type) Scales yet, you should check them out :) #CSS #Design #Simplicity
Something I originally learned about reading Maggie Appletons Colophon, and now use on this website, too.

Original source: Fluid Responsive Design | Utopia

Implementations:

- Fluid for Tailwind CSS - Build better responsive designs in less code. (not updated to Tailwind 4)
- Unocss preset fluid | Unocss preset fluid
- Tailwind Clamp - Documentation

Today I researched Fluid Scales in Tailwind :) #Tailwind #CSS #TIL
Some time ago, I held a lightning talk at our functional programming meetup on Fluid Type Scales (Where you try and get rid of `class="sm:... md:... lg:..."` whenever it makes sense).

This was, for a long time, a good reason for me to use UnoCSS.

But today, I learned that someone built this for Tailwind, too:

- fluid.tw

But since this doesn't support Tailwind 4, I'll be using the slightly uglier, but simpler (and maintained!) tailwind-clamp for now.

May your utility classes always be simple :)

Oh, right, it does! :) I switched to Colemak DH, this made things easier, I think. But also (1) my timeouts for combos are pretty low so it's _very_ hard to type them by accident (2) they're mostly on two keys over another, and I can't type these in a fast way either way.

beat @beathagenlocher.com · 18/03/2026
- I have moved most of my symbols to combos which I trigger by hitting two keys with one finger - After trying hyprland/workspaces for a while, I found something like run-or-raise (and jus GNOME, actually) to be faster and simpler for window switching Maybe some of this resonates, too :)
