FINAL CALL: Applications for the Bears Ears Youth Council close tomorrow, September 15, 2026 at 5 PM MT. The BEITC is preparing for the second annual cycle of the Bears Ears Youth Council, an initiative designed to empower the next generation of Tribal leaders and land stewards.

Just days after Bears Ears was reduced by approximately 91% and the Bears Ears Commission was terminated, the Coalition marked our eleventh anniversary. This anniversary comes at a difficult time, but our story began long before the Monument was established and it doesn't end here.

4 years ago today, leaders from the five Commission Tribes joined the Bureau of Land Management & U.S. Forest Service in White Mesa, Utah, on Ute Mountain Ute lands. During that gathering, they signed a cooperative agreement for the collaborative management of BENM and unveiled new monument signage.

Through programs like the Bears Ears Youth Council and the Bears Ears Conservation Corps, youth and elders spend time on the land together, sharing knowledge, language, stories, and histories. This is how those connections continue across generations.

“Still, Tribal people return to Bears Ears. How could they not? The ties are so strong. ‘Our ancestors left their footprints here, our medicine society came up this way and we still have medicine here that was taken over and impeded by land owners. This area is very important to us as well.
