Landlords pissed that they can't gouge renters for even more money. There, I fixed it.

Monica Smit, shill for One Nation, false claimer of credit for ending GVT in Victoria, and infamous for telling old people they should be happy to die of covid as long as her personal desires aren't curtailed, now thinks she can - apparently singlehandedly - end mandatory voting in Australia.

"A key figure in the abolishment of the Group Voting Ticket (GVT) In Victoria, Monica Smith, now has a new 'addiction' driving her - she wants to get rid of mandatory voting."

This is about as blatant a grift as it gets. Monica Smit, shill for One Nation and famous for telling old people they should be happy to die, now thinks she can end mandatory voting - and wants people to help her do that.

Never just one - currently a dissection of the politics of civility and a series about the Napoleonic Wars and dragons!

Book cover of 'Screw Nice', by Amy Remeikis, "a powerful examination of how the politics of civility shuts us up and holds us down"

Book cover of "Black Powder War" by Naomi Novik, book 3 of the Temeraire series

My daughter's favourite is Spirited Away. It helped her through a very bad patch of illness, and now it works every time.

I have a joke about Tetris, but I'm not sure it'll stack up.

Oh, definitely Blake's Seven, too! Avon is such a wonderfully snarky queen.

Tetrisphere! All the fun of Tetris with the insanity of dealing with a rotating sphere.

Agreed. Those last two seasons didn't so much jump the shark as crawl tiredly over it and flop in the water on the other side.

Soooo ... how long until the Butlerian Jihad?

The problem stems from the fact that truth is not a requirement for the official 'yes' and 'no' cases. There is literally nothing to stop liars with vested interests completely misleading the public. It happened in 1988, in '99, and in 2023.

Honestly, Power Wash Simulator. I know it's weird, but there's something so *satisfying* about spending time listening to the ssssh of the water and watching the grime melt away.

The Dark is Rising sequence, by Susan Cooper. Fantastic British fantasy with a nod to Arthur and Welsh myth. I still have copies that I regularly re-read, and I've hunted down replacements when I've read them to pieces.

So, in order to lease this new place my daughters need to be signatories (because of shenanigans regarding my income). BUT, because they will be signatories, I am not eligible for a grant to help pay my first month's rent. It doesn't matter if they're not paying rent at all.

110

Maz Weaver @beanieflower.bsky.social · 09/06/2026

OMG finally! After four months I've been able to find somewhere to live. It's much further out than where I am now, but this is the only accessible property out of dozens I've applied for that's prepared to give me a go.

And I have been rejected every time. I don't know why and there's no way I can find out. Those places have likely gone to able-bodied people who have far more options than I do. So here I am, running hard up against a deadline, with no fucking prospects at all.

I've been trying for 3 months to find a new rental place. Because of my disabilities, I need somewhere on the ground floor, with a walk-in shower, and secure storage for my mobility scooter. There aren't a lot of places that have this, and I've applied for every one I've found. Over a dozen. 1/2
