Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 17hA lot of craftsmanship in this Chinese (not Japanese!) cloisonne vase. Neatly applied wan-fret background, dense blossom branch/peony design, classic rock garden base with nice little details. Metalwork style leans 19th century? Circa 1910? Earlier? Later? eBay sold item 377539814497 000
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 18hThe roots of these little floral motifs go back to Qing times, as seen in this round box, eBay sold item 206590244601 110
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 18hI personally like these two-color "Old Man" style pieces because of the way the floral and bud designs fill the space without requiring a background diaper to hold the enamel to the base. Filling a blank space gracefully, even with repetitive motifs, takes skill. 010
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 18hI think the little bowl with the star diaper and fish medallion is a rare composition, and a nice complement to your beautiful green jar. As to what the flowers represent, they seem most likely to be an abstraction based upon the peony? 100
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Going throuh my pix files of cloisonne buckles, found this Chinese example with a similar double fish motif to the bowl. 110
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Famous Qian Meihua design up for bids. Some damage - bits of corrosion, missing turquoise cabochons, tarnished metal work on handles. Still a nice production of the original design. www.liveauctioneers.com/item/2430005... 020
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 05/10/2026RHM Galleries FTW with two beautiful modern Chinese cloisonne auction sales. eBay sold item 307181150092; black & turquoise vase pair on offer item 307179823429. 010
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Beautiful pair of big 15-inch Chinese cloisonne millefleur vases, eBay sold item 206600057234. Interesting because they seem to be updates of the same millefleur motifs used in the Republic decades. Totally Chinese, in other words, not Western-style Hallmark greeting card flowers. circa 1970s? 020
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 05/10/20262013 long blog post about the Rice Weiner "Water Man" brooch featuring Chinese cloisonne beads & a mysterious mark in Chinese characters. An example sold recently on eBay, item 137038752601. Seems to have some verdigris on shoulder, but otherwise a bargain price? www.beadiste.com/2013/11/puzz... 010
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Get your bids ready😺 Very interesting description of likely provenance (tip o' the hat to N.B. for spotting this one) www.bonhams.com/auction/3280... 030
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Yeah, I thought the asking price was a bit high, as the beads seem a trifle corroded, but I always think prices are too high😸 010
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Yet another circa 1970s-80s assemblage of Chinese cloisonne beads listed as "antique," but obviously some sort of non-Chinese re-stringing. Nice vintage beads, many by the Dot Artist, plus a Kuo Cloisonne bead (pale blue, second from clasp). eBay 189026234826 www.beadiste.com/2014/01/puzz... 100
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Whoops, red vase has no mark. This is the much simpler, and presumably later, vase with the CHINA stamp. 000
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Most unusual Chinese cloisonne belt buckle. A cute mini landscape typical of bric-a-brac from c1920s-30s. Enameled on both sides - never seen that before. Someone soldered a brooch back to it. Seller evidently researched Chen WenQi (陳文起), but doubtful it's the same person? eBay sold 278420359592 310
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I have a weakness for whatever Chinese workshop circa 1940s-50s made this style of cloisonne with the energetic, if stereotypical, floral patterns against a white background with a spiral diaper. An artist who could do a lot with a little. eBay sold item 198676176744 020
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 30/09/2026If you like Republic-era cigarette boxes, this lively double dragons example is hard to beat. Corrosion definitely needs removal, however. eBay 327374235036 010
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I think I have a couple of these Chinese cloisonne boxes because I like the swirling trefoil birds design. Alas, I didn't see this bargain in time😸 eBay sold item 398446478596 010
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 30/09/2026More Japanese cloisonne in custard yellow, this time a large 10" Ando marked scenic vase. eBay sold item 127903971348 010
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Adorably cute little Japanese cloisonne vase in a graceful iris theme with a custard enamel you could just eat.😺 eBay item 158363149313 000
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Unusual central medallion design of yin-yang fish in this old Chinese cloisonne bowl. Also the comparatively rare star background diaper. eBay item 168745135208 120
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 30/09/2026A rare cloisonne technique - filling in the background enamel only (the reverse of "golden ground" openwork, where the background is _not_ enameled). 8" covered jar on offer at eBay, item 227546051437. Some rare Republic-era beads were also made like this. 010
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 28/09/2026DeXingCheng vase sold in eBay for what seems like a modest sum for such a rare vase of fine craftsmanship? Item 237081690139 121
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Now do a remake of the White House - let's tear down the Trump ballroom and do something different to celebrate the occasion😸 000
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Sounds like the perfect birthday/holidays gift for all the 10-12 year-olds on your list (including those of us who have not lost their inner child 😺) 011

Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 24/09/2026I have wondered if the twisted wire design on these early Republic era Chinese cloisonne beads were actually the work of a Russian emigre in a Chinese workshop during the 1920s, when Peking was a destination for White Russians fleeing the 1917 Revolution. Found in necklaces of Boshan glass. 010
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 24/09/2026An example of Russian twisted wire cloisonne at its finest - imitated by the Japanese and Chinese but never surpassed - a cigarette case by Gustav Klingert, Faberge work master, Moscow 1893, on offer at eBay 257702148742 210

Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 20/09/2026One of those mysterious Japanese cloisonne scroll weight (fuchin) beads sold on eBay, item 178443115724. A mate is still on offer, item 178443115724. Too bad about the separate offering - these are paired sets. Did a blog post about these giant beads awhile back. www.beadiste.com/2026/05/myst... 110
Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Tip o' the hat to Y.C. - I wouldn't have made this connection to the pieces in the Shanghai Museum if they hadn't pointed out the faux-antique enamel several weeks ago in another discussion.😺 110

Beadiste @beadiste.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Someone snapped up a cute Chinese cloisonne dragon bottle for a bargain price. eBay sold item 137718731141. Listed as early 1900s, but this bottle design shows up in various decorative schemes circa 1970s?, when the workshops were still trying to be innovative with traditional motifs. 010
