It wasn’t competitive before LIV. Just my opinion, but the international team has nothing to coalesce around. Fabulous players, all, but the Euros play for their tour, for their history. The international team plays for…what, exactly? The event itself is not that interesting.

I don’t believe the Players is a major, it kind of stands alone. However, by your logic, the Masters wasn’t a major until post WW2, and both the Open and the US Open shouldn’t be counted for at least 20yrs after their inceptions. It could be argued that the PGA has never been a major

I’ve listened for years to the people who say golf is not a sport. To me, this is not a sport. The participants are phenomenal athletes doing incredible things, but then they are judged. And most people cannot tell which one is better. For all its flaws, at least high level golf has a true winner.
