So damn fortunate to have my doctor—he’s gay, based at Spectrum Health in Van, incredibly kind, and never rushes. Finding a good doctor in BC is hard; finding a great one that understands you is even harder. I feel like I won the lotto. Feeling grateful.

Visited my parents this weekend on a Gulf Island off the BC Coast. They live in a lagoon, and after the ferry, the quickest way to their off-grid home is by boat through the neck.

Processors often do little to ensure consumer safety besides tracking paperwork. For examples, red tide testing is done by the government onsite, and farmers must check that their area is open before harvesting.

Regulations have made seafood processing lucrative in BC, with processors taking a large cut while farmers get a small fraction, even if they handle processing. Not to mention processors keep sales private, making it hard for farmers to know buyers.
