Built another small game for the Apple Vision Pro with AI: Pitch Recognizer. You're put into the batter's box and facing a pitcher. Are the pitches balls or strikes? Are you good enough to recognize the pitch type? Can you face a MLB level pitcher? www.youtube.com/watch?v=58KV...

I started down this road almost two years ago and was teaching myself Zig. Then leaned in AI for a few months and determined that at the time agentic coding wasn't going to cut it. Opus 5.5 is the first model where I feel getting Crane done is now possible.

This project is the one that is going to replae LiveView Native with a more general approach that allows any client side JS framework to build actual native UI. Is it still needed in the agent of agentic coding? I don't know. But I've been wanting to get this done so I'm doing it.

I agree, that's why I've pivoted away from Elixir to Zig. Having wasm as a real 1st class concern for the compiler is fantastic.

I'm working on Zap's concurrency model today. The basics I'm toying with: Conceptually similar to the BEAM where each process is isolated, supervised, has its own memory manager (currently have ARC, Arena, and GC managers to choose from), and uses message passing.

This is just going to result in an explosion of papers submitted then the ACM will announce they'll be using AI to help manage the inflow. So AI will be reviewing AI written papers.

Getting the LLMs to write Zap code leveraging pattern matching is proving challenging. First image is how a Simd.reduce function was written. Second is how it should be written.

It Has To Be Human Auditable
In the ever increasing world of agentic coding where tools and processes are evolving at an increasing rate we need to keep how the AI works human-auditable.

The number of times I keep getting bitten by how slow marshalling data from a BEAM process to a NIF and back is really exposing how problematic the BEAM is for so many use cases that require real performance.

There have been various discussions but the tldr is there are real fundamental things missing today from WASM that need to be addressed before that bridge can be made. TBH I still think we're years out

Brian Cardarella @bcardarella.bsky.social · 19/05/2026
I do think there is value in allows the DOM to target render engines that aren't always HTML. In that space you could get a really unique UI framework that render to canvas/webgl/ewbgpu and still get everything the DOM offers
110
Brian Cardarella @bcardarella.bsky.social · 19/05/2026
no not today, there are some experimental flags that I *think* can turn on partial capabilities but at the pace WASM developesr we're probably still years away
110
Brian Cardarella @bcardarella.bsky.social · 19/05/2026
the DOM has a ton of stuff in it that isn't HTML specific. TBH I think it has tremendous value to still target
110
Brian Cardarella @bcardarella.bsky.social · 19/05/2026
Depends what you're lowering to, if you are just writing to a canvas/buffer sure. But I believe experimenal browser settings now allow wasm to touch DOM. (I may be off on this but it is coming) Once that lands we'll see every language that targets WASM compilation having their own UI framework

Good for Talarico. There's a huge issue on the far left with outright racism towards Jewish people. You can have take issue with Israel but don't let that position apply to all Jews.

Major progress on Zap over the past few days. I introduced some very difficult perf benchmarks which exposed a Zig IR lowering retain issue with the ARC memory mgmt model. These three benchmarks were recording 7GB - 13GB of memory. Now memory is on par with other major languages.

Meanwhile Rust devs are dancing around like it's a nail in the coffin of Zig. I don't get why the Rust devs behave and act this way.
000
Brian Cardarella @bcardarella.bsky.social · 11/05/2026
The amount of dunking the Rust community seems to be doing on Zig because of the Bun rewrite speaks volumes of their members. So far most Zig community members seem to understand why Bun is doing this and admit it's a loss but it's not a catastrophic one.

What I *do* know is that nobody else has the answer either. There are a ton of people that *think* that have cracked this nut but when I press them on how complex of a problem they're solving it isn't truly complex.

Brian Cardarella @bcardarella.bsky.social · 10/05/2026
FWIW I am not convinced this is insurmountable. Am I prompting poorly? Is it an orchestration issue? Context window size problem? I'm not sure.

The far left nut cases here on Bluesky reflexively like Anthropic for the single case of Anthropic fighitng with the Trump admin and conveniently disregard all of the other horrible shit they do.
010
Brian Cardarella @bcardarella.bsky.social · 07/05/2026
This is way *WAY* more dangerous than the naked capitalism of Sam Altman / OpenAI But the real solution we need is a viable open model. That puts both of Anthropic and OpenAI out to pasture.

Brian Cardarella @bcardarella.bsky.social · 07/05/2026
They believe they're "the good guys" but don't want to allow other at the table to have a say in how AI will impact society. They're behavior is that of zealots. In order to protect humanity from AI they need to be the sole winner. Then they can dictate to society how it can use AI.

Brian Cardarella @bcardarella.bsky.social · 07/05/2026
The problem I have with Anthropic is how they respond to any potential compeition. They regularly shut down access to their model and have shown zero remorse for ripping other companies off.

Anthropic is neither the nicest nor the most ethtical. They're a cult.

Zap is currently single-threaded so that is the basis of comparison that the other languages are tested on, which is why Elixir performs so poorly.
