Riccia huebeneriana seen in great abundance at Stithians reservoir today. We recorded only a few rosettes at this site in 2023 - an increasing population?
View of the drawdown zone, stream to the right, looking into the distance, blue sky with a few clouds. Showing cracked mud in the foreground with plants, 30 or more rosettes of Riccia huebeneriana on a firm muddy substrate. No other vegetation presentshowing a single rosette on Riccia huebeneriana

I was in N. Norfolk on Friday & early autumn produced the most exquisite day. Light was soft & colours glowed. Here was just some ordinary Pelia endiviifolia growing in a pond. A pond sited within heath, bordered by Molinia & yet with a chalky base. Just look at the jade beauty of this liverwort!

Interesting to find the moss Polytrichum strictum growing in good quantity on logs today, in open woodland in West Lothian, Scotland. An unusual habitat for this species, which is normally found on wet ground, especially in bogs.
