Red Dogwoods, Abelia (smells a lot like lilac), and a Forest Pansy Redbud. Flowers were so beautiful this year. The pollen is *record breaking* since they've started recording it. A-phuqin-choo already. We've already had a high 80s day in April. Bracing for a brutal summer.

This is a vertical photograph of red dogwood blossoms in one of our trees on the side of our house. The angle is upward so the field of view is dense with blossoms. The blossoms are a deeper pink at the edges/ends of the blossom with a blush toned ivory center near to the stem. The center of the blossom is an acid yellow/green. Branches are smooth grey brown.

Close up of Abelia with open white asterisk like flowers with five 'petals' as well as salmon color buds. It is not an especially pretty bush as a whole, but it can scent the neighborhood when it is in full bloom when it's not raining. The scent reminds me of lilac.

Forest Pansy Redbud in blossom. This is a very young tree - sparse. This young redbud is a couple of weeks behind our larger redbud (in a previous post). It is intermittently peppered with pinky purple flowers. The leaves start deep aubergine, turn emerald in the summer, and yellow in fall. I will continue to document this tree as I have wanted one for 20 years now.

Finally framed a portrait of Freyja by local artist Dirk Hays. The frame is from The Chester Frame Company. I have had three other dogs painted by Dirk, but this is the first one framed in a color that does not match the dogs coat. He can paint your dog too .... just sayin' @dirkhays.bsky.social

#sims4 #sims4help So - every time a male sim gets a tattoo or body hair, there is 'bruising' under the pecs. Anyone else? Hoping to avoid the 50/50 as it'll take hours to find. #showusyourmalesims Tumblr was useless and then there's the fact so few make male sims (??) which I'll never get. HELP.

New canvas - something new for me - I normally don't add texture to a canvas (the thought being that it would not match all the varied styles of the art) but this small set is going to do it's best to pull it off. Created using only shapes/brushes in photoshop - inspired by art saved in my archives.

#thesims4 #help I'm attempting to remake this table with better textures and more variety. Two different bases - same exact problem. The glass looks specked. This would seem like a specular problem to me - but the glass specular is all white (same as EA). Any ideas? Only visible in raking light.

#sims4 #wip #thesims4 For the life of me, I cannot find the original (actual) leg - I am seeing copies out there, but this was named Phloid's Leg as a coy reference to the original design name. First test in game and I love how it translated. Original from 2014 for S3. Now for the coffee table.

I wanted to make something new (after reworking a bunch of older items) and I think wrangling cats might have been a less frustrating effort. For a simple design, I over-complicated it with soft edges that refused to align side to side/end to end. Will continue to tinker at it. #sims4 #wip #thesims4

This floor was selected to be a palate cleanser from the industrial floor lamps - instead the pattern drove me up a wall. Inspired by a photo found online, this tile effect was a very happy accident. The specular (thing to make it shine) was a bit of a goof up and I love it.

Sims4 screen shot showing a new geometric tile floor which was both grueling to make (I kept screwing up the diagonal patterns to face the wrong direction) and a stupid happy accident (the tiles have the wavy high gloss appearance of a hand made bespoke tile). Shown with upcoming tables (in turquoise and barn red), a previously released table (in aqua), and plants/bicycle from other creators I adore. Walls are a dull terra cotta color and the new floor is white with a similar color to the walls. Also shown are the reworked industrial tripod floor work lamps. The taller lamp is mostly in silhouette, the shorter lamp shows its greenish 'metal' shade. Not shown is the inspiration photos which had matte finish very flat tiles. I will keep the wavy/high shine version.

#wip #sims4 #thesims4 between having tiny strokes reading my feed over the past week of pure insanity, I have been trying to rework these floor lamps. The 2016 version won't light up for me in my game anymore. I chose to scale up & shortened to feel less fragile (they really are fragile seeming IRL)

Various projects - some released, some WIP - along with items from a new Sims 4 kit - there is an industrial floor lamp that has been a real muthaf'kr to get the ligting, scale, and assigned smoothing to look like it belongs in a sims 4 game. The original conversion from 2016 I loved, but stopped lighting up at some point in game. Again - my style is not specifically maxis match, but this truly felt skeletal by comparison to other items in game. This is version 1 - I am 'perfecting' it before moving forward with it's variation. Items are shown in blue/green/grey/rust against a mottled white plaster backdrop. Items are a 60s twine covered wrought iron folding screen, a distressed chicken mirror, a pie-tin clock with utensil hands, a stool side table, a vintage caned chair, a jelly cabinet, and the tripod lamp. Kit items are a broken bust, a plant, some oddly shaped sculpture and a picture with simple shapes. Floors are dark brown, overlapping ratty rugs in browns, greyblues, greens, greys.

#wip #sims4 #thesims4 plant stand circa 2013 and end table circa 2014 converted. This 'set' really has no direction other than these are things I have missed from my back catalogue. So far nothing has been a straight on conversion - it's all been primped and plucked to some degree.

Quick test shot of all 24 color variations of the taller plant stand. This is based off a real one I found antiquing years ago - I believe from Massachusetts. The two far rows are in dull milkpaint colors. The first row is textured worn paints and the second row in are based on rich victorian/edwardian colors. The table is square top with an inverted scalloped edge. The shelf below is square. The legs are very frail looking and end with a ball finial. This is all lined up in the test house yard to check for problems. The biggest problem is that it isn't catalogued as an end table so it is hard to find. Easy fix.

This is a quick test shot of the second table. This has a joke name 'shoodabena' end table. It looks more like a stool than a table. The object narrative is that started out as a stool but upon finishing it, it was clearly just a table. It has 18 color variations. Six various wood tones, six edwardian/victorian rich hued colors, six worn paints. The stools are quickly arranged in the test house yard to just get a good look at them to make sure nothing stands out as odd.

Surprisingly - some of these are not uv reactive - we held up a black light and only half of them lit up (more than they already glow). This is an example we made (local craftsman) but it was a *lot* more. The sheet is 48x96 and we’d have to buy a whole sheet for a small frame.

Normally don’t talk about work so directly, but these frames are just too cool - will probably inspire a new art set in the future. We’ve made a few like this but these are next level w/ how the are cut and bent . They *glow* - also helps they *just* offer this so it cuts cost sourcing materials

$Shown are acrylic color floater frames. The way they are assembled refracts their color and amplifies the color. They have a wedge taken out and bent to a right angle. These are mostly transparent options - shown at the bottom are chips of some of the colors. They will be inspiration in real life but also for digital modeling for sims4$

#wip Took all day, but I finally got to test the table in #sims4 but to see it accurately is nice. The harsh rendering in UVMapper is helpful, but I can only really see the true look of it once it is in game. This is a promising start.

First in game test of a trolley cart coffee table for sims 4. Up until now I have shown examples in UVMapper which does not have a 'vaseline coated lens' like the game does.

A different angle of the same table. This is a clean texture - soft wood grain, soft wear. A planned version will hopefully look a little less polished. Table is shown with a new kit sofa and a vase of flowers by Pocci.

One more angle of the table. The normal map on the corner braces turned out quite nice. This was mentioned earlier, but the texture comes from a pole lamp shade that is right next to my desk. This is strikingly similar to the original from 2011, but I didn't own the lamp then .... can't say how I did it - but it was not a clear enough texture to reuse. This is far and away better.

I have a few ideas for a more gritty texture, but I wanted to try something a little more 'refurbished' rather than just a grungy table. This has 'stained' iron/zinc w/ a 'refinished' single color across the table. Maxis mix is the direction I am most comfortable with - I like the depth. #sims4 #wip

This shot shows just the maxis match texture. For me - it lacks any real depth which is my inherent problem with maxis match. This is a straight on texture/color provided by MadameRia and it will be invaluable to the overall look, but for this project it's not enough.

Snow day in Atlanta. It's like the world ends. They don't *treat* the roads, so we're stuck in the house until it gets above freezing and the sun melts the ice on the roads. Update on the trolley cart coffee table - I am playing with soft texture to *hopefully* appease those maxis match enthusiasts.

Follow up image from my last post of the sims4 version of the trolley cart coffee table with additional textures to test. While the sims4 community responds best to 'maxis match' style, I like things like grit and texture. Life is messy. Plus - I am covered with scars from work, life, surgeries. Embrace the grit - we're all a work of art. Steel and zinc have been muddled and soft rust applied. Boards and wood have been made a bit dirty and random stains applied.

#sims4 #wip I dreaded this initially. This was an early mesh and I was surprisingly ambitious. The wheels alone lost a ton of polys with the former spokes removed. This can either be an alpha trick or left solid. I doubt your sim will even know. They will admire the polys cleaned up though. Promise.

Cart is quickly textured with a sims wood texture with a real texture very lightly overlaying. Steel and zinc finish the metal bits.

#sims4 #WIP 'remasters' of some older items. Not entirely sure what's next - I have a whole folder full of items I have wanted to convert over - some will be simple conversions, some are significant edits to reduce polys or correct shapes that look a little off in S4 vs S3.

wall clock created in 2011 for sims 3 converted over to sims 4 with more maxis match textures. Sadly, clocks don't work without some a mod in Sims 4 so this will be accurate only twice a day. Clock is based on a real clock in my home found at a craft fair. It is a pie tin with a fork and spoon for the hour and minute hands.

Originally created in 2011 for sims 3 this set of nesting bowls shown in sims 4 is a significant poly reduction from the original.

The jelly cabinet in the background was the start of this new series of rehashes. The chair is a new edit - this has a few more polys added to soften the shapes of the back outside turned posts and the finial which originally looked a little more like a plumbob that hangs over sims heads. The colors shown are a lot more punchy - the caning detail has been culled from a game item. I will still keep the original as it's like a before and after restoration. I am still impressed I was able to get the effects I did in S4 at a time when really no one was doing this sort of a alpha trick (at least in sims 4)

Another shot with the chairs in the foreground, but the flour cabinet in the background is the second item in this set to get a complete cleanup. Cleanups can be simplifying shapes to have less polys - removing unseen parts that help in construction but bloat the poly count. Ideally these things would be cleaned up at the start, but I was 'young' and while I would hesitate to call myself experience now, I have a tiny bit more experience with doing this sort of thing. I still work in old programs - blender has become so confusing to me.

So - that you mentioned the chair - I had to take a look at it and ... it's getting fluffed. I'm considering the table too ... not like my style is all MM but the wood textures I chose on certain things pretty much caused people to pass over them.

digital model of antique chair purchased in the 80s, created originally for sims 3 in early 2013, it was converted to sims 4 in 2015/16 - now it's getting a proper clean up and re-release in 2025. Chair is shown with a wood grain to aid me in rotating the parts on the map to the proper direction so a single wood texture can be applied. This is not always possible due to space constraints on the map.

I am filling an old request to convert my S3 Jelly Cabinet and Flour Cabinet to #sims4 - only took - what - five years? These are scaled, cleaned up, tweaked, and coerced. Read the ALT for a little more info. Working on a 'remaster' actually lets me learn a little more that normal items. Who knew?

This design is based on my real life flour cabinet with one major difference - mine does not have the top glass doors. For Sims - having spaces to decorate is important. Nearly forgot a piece I *re*framed in 2024 - a piece I did nearly 28 years ago after college. Watercolor silkscreen/riso print embellished. Zero control over how they turned out but utterly rewarding when I *liked* how it turned out. I’m already cringing at 2025 like 2024 was a prize.

Abstract watercolor silkscreen with a riso print embellishment in gold ink. Colors of teal, burnt umber, Naples yellow, reds, and greens layered atop each other. The process could not be replicated and the results were either ‘good’ or ‘bad’ depending on who you asked. Results reminded me of a monotype. Framed with an 8ply mat to match the paper and a mottled gold frame with orange accent.

One final piece of framed art from my year of framing. This bearded gent is from around 1910 - possibly a study - possibly from a larger piece. Our conservator cleaned up the heavy drippy vanish and brightened him up. This frame was planned the second I laid eyes on him. Where do I hang everything?

Painting is more impressionistic than realism, but more detailed than what might be considered Impressionism.

More framing in 2024 - a piece I got for my husband from dianacatchpole_art - an Etsy purchase from a few years back. This silver barnwood complemented it quietly.

A three color Linocut print - frolicking sable color jackrabbits jumping in opposite directions over flower detailed green grass under blue skies with stylized cloud and sun carved out - printed on a cotton white paper framed in a white 8ply mat to match the paper and a silver barnwood frame with a dark brown wax rub to highlight the texture. The framed piece is hanging on a dark grey brick wall.

I feel like this sums up life right now - took this on my drive into work - currently it’s light out, but driving head on into the darkness/storms. Sadly, my phone didn’t capture the intensity - which also seems a little true to life as well.

Back in Aug.2021 I started a number of projects - updating previously released items and starting new ones. I am not sure what patch broke me, but I shuttered shop for a while. Chatting with @coffinfit.bsky.social the other day I remembered a rabbit lamp I was working on. A maxis-hack. #sims4

Unbaked 'painted' mesh of a rabbit lamp for Sims 4. Maxis rabbit sculpture with shade obfuscating the 'face' - body of rabbit is the base, scalp/ears of rabbit would be the finial. This has been mocked up on vintage map blue with light taupe shade rendered in UVMapper.

Rabbit mesh shown in Milkshape in three viewpoints as a poly skeleton structure with one viewpoint rendered in solid. The rabbit Maxis mesh has been made into a lap. Part of the head is missing to lower the poly count. This will not be seen on the final product as there is a created lampshade with implied diffusers on the top and bottom of the shade to hide the face. Ear and scalp stick out the top, body would be the lamp base.

Newly acquired from same dealer as my prev. shown vintage art (7.31.24). French school - 1850s - unknown artist. Colleague surprised me on my day off - it has just been fit into a misfit frame (22k over black clay) so score and score. Normally support living (but could not resist this dead) artists.

Detailed portrait of man with closely cropped hair, with Napoleon III Imperial style beard. Inferred bare shoulders. Portrait is in charcoal. Subject's eye are looking to the models right, but head is facing forward. Framed in cotton mats (8ply over 3/8 exposed inner 4ply mat) in the same color as the paper. Frame is a brassy 22k gold over black clay framed with museum glass. Item is hung on grey painted brick wall for display.

We planted our forest pansy redbud today - it replacing a relatively young red dogwood that just never took off. This tree already feels more at home in the yard. It is in good company. Hawthorn, serviceberry, crepe myrtle, red dogwood, among other various bushes and trees we’ve planted over 15yrs.

Newly planted redbud tree that has yellow fall color currently. It will be purple in the spring, dark green in the summer, and yellow in the fall. In the background is a blue lace hydrangea still in its pot.

At this angle the redbud is in front of a hawthorn tree. Sweet shrub is to the right of the hawthorn and is light acid green in color. Behind the hawthorn is a loropetalum in a very deep purple.

At this angle the red but is in front of a bare serviceberry and a red rocket crepe myrtle that is showing its bronze autumn color. A tiny osmanthus is in the far right. That variety has never grown for us - it remains the size we bought it 8 or so years ago.

Love this! We have a few Osmanthus in our yard, but the orange variety took off and is over 25' tall. It's in bloom right now and you can smell it through the neighborhood - heavenly! We usually call it a 'Flowering Tea Olive'

We are entering fall and the trees have had to endure a very hot summer so they have seen bushier/healthier looking days.

Orange Osmanthus - center of the photo is the 'Flowering Tea Olive' - we had transplanted it a couple of times when it was very small - 10-15 years ago. This location it exploded into a 25' dense blockade. There are a few families of birds that when the dogs get close to it (the tree is in their fenced in area) the birds become very vocal. Tall oak can be seen in the far distance above the Osmanthus.

A close up of the leaves and flowers of the Orange Osmanthus. It is a hardy bush, but the flowers are very fragile. While fragrant, if we were to prune it, this variety's flower would wither and become scentless very quickly. The scent of these flowers is hard to describe, but it can be smelled across our entire neighborhood. The orange variety is our most prolific and showy. Our white variety (not shown) is darker in color and a third of this trees size.

Went antique shopping ….saw a lot of dogs today.

Would pet but not buy for $48. Passably done paint by number of a Pomeranian dog framed in a cheap craft wood frame.

Dog head creamer(?) with an O opening for its mouth. The dog is white with a sloppily painted burgundy collar and an oversized yellow bell. Its eyes are blue. None of the glaze colors stayed in the lines.

Paint by number of a German shepherd, with its tongue out, at a three quarter’s view. Its eye is a little ‘derp’ this painting is a steal at $32.

Small Japanese Lusterware ‘frenchie’ dog/ Bonzo the Dog sitting on its haunches next to an orange top hat. One eye is wide open - the other a bit squinty. Looks drunk. The mouth has been overpainted with red which looks like the dog ate a lipstick.

Our three headed delight yesterday in the backyard. Javi and Jaxon are old men - Freyja is the teenybopper of the bunch. No one matched her zoomies energy.

Thought I'd share one of my art walls. Top row 2nd piece from right is my mums work painted on tissue. The steer are a local artist in Atlanta. The assemblage is one of mine - part of an unfinished series. Side effect of working with art all day is it can steal your artistic thunder - not boost it.

Wanted to show this in 'regular' lighting - the photo at work really washed out the finer details and the warmth of the paper and graphite. What is hard to capture is the luminosity of the white ink. Finding the perfect home in a house full of art (side effect of being a framer) will be a hurdle.

Framed this up at work and brought it home today - Anthro-Elk by @ksciencearts.bsky.social I hand wrapped a linen mat and framed it in a vintage style antique silver ribbed coved profile. Support living artists when you can. I still can't believe how fortunate I was to have this pop up in my feed.

Very excited - art budget was challenged this year but this was really a once in a lifetime find. German school academic nude - 1884 - I framed it in white gold over red clay with matching spacer. Historically I have not been so opulent with my framing choices but - I mean - it makes sense, right?
