Rest in Peace, Margaret Hamilton. The coder who saved the Apollo 11. Without her pulling overtime to fix problems her bosses told her to ignore, the Eagle would not have landed. Seen here, standing next to printouts of the Apollo's programs.

Idea: 80s camp. Like summer camp, but instead of cabins in the woods, the kids go to a town that's frozen in 1984.

Jack Smith's opening remarks are simple, powerful, and to the point. 5 minutes of congressional testimony actually worth hearing. There's nothing here you didn't already know. It's the unwavering courage it's presented with that merit your time.

I cut my power bill almost in half. How? I stopped cooling the entire house during a heat wave, and installed window AC units in the specific rooms I was spending time in. While it's 99 outside, my thermostat is set to 89 for the house, and 76 only in the one room I'm in.

Meanwhile, over in the UK: Parliamentarian Nigel Farage, facing an ethics investigation, steps down. This triggers a new election. This lets him say the people still want him, when he gets re-elected. But if he gets elected again, the ethics investigation just restarts.

Clever quality-of-life tech on Japan Airlines: The windows have a (liquid crystal?) brightness and color filter, instead of shades. The window stays open the whole flight, but the plane sinks into artificial "nighttime" by gradually fading all the windows darker and bluer, on schedule.

I ate strawberries. They were awesome. It made me sad. Strawberries used to be this delicious thing. Childhood memories tell me strawberries used to taste good. But we always remember things being better than they were. But... strawberries in Japan still taste like I remember. The memory was real.

Less relevant to today, but deeply relevant to interests of mine, and maybe yours, too: Europe, in part, stayed in the dark ages because the cost of spreading knowledge was too high. Because only parchment was good enough, and they turned their noses up at cheap paper and papyrus.

Would youTube commentators please stop asking, "Who won India & Pakistan's war?" First, it's a war. Wars have losers. No one wins. At best, you do something needed and pay the price. More importantly, can we not taunt either side by rubbing their nose in it?

In the 1970s, the Soviets sent a series of giant probes to Venus. They showed that the planet was far from the tropical paradise predicted; It was a hellscape of acid rain hurricanes. One of the probes malfunctioned, and was trapped in Earth orbit. In the next few days it will fall back to Earth.

Trumps loudly-proclaimed tariffs aren't actually being collected. Somewhere, there's a Database Administrator explaining in exhaustion that the executive order and the published chart disagree. They need to know CLEARLY what the rules are supposed to be before they can start implementing them.

If you had told 12 year old me that he would routinely use chainmail as a grown up, he would think that was pretty cool. If you explained to him that it was all kitchen supplies: That he was going to use to scrub cast iron skillets and weight things in the sous vide pot, he would be less impressed.
