The collapse of the USSR was such a horrific disaster for the world at large. There's literally nothing to stop the US and the West on their genocidal rampaging and imperialist destruction. Cuba has suffered the consequences of the collapse the most. Be there a hell, Gorbachev and Yeltsin are there.

We all know the “three sources & component parts” of Marxism, but I’d argue that there is a fourth. That being the natural sciences, which Marx and Engels always made a concerted effort to engage with. You can argue all day about their success, but if reality isn’t dualistic, neither are dialectics

My new article, “Marx’s Concept of Life,” is now out in EJP.

Marx's Concept of Life
This essay aims to reveal the conceptual unity of an ensemble of concepts of organic, animal, and anthropological life articulated by the young Karl Marx between 1842 and 1844. To lay the groundwork ...

I’ve been on a big enactive cognition kick which is clearly infecting my reading of Hegel because I see Hegelians give hot takes about Marxism and materialism and just think “oh this person doesn’t know enactive cognition exists”

judging by some of the papers on realism that I’m seeing in enactive circles, it would probably do them a lot of good to read “Materialism and Empirio-Criticism” and replace the occasional word or phrase with something appropriately sensorimotor-ish.

I wonder how many philosophers and theorists have seriously examined their epistemological presuppositions in light of enactive cognition

It’s very funny how many Marxists still insist Engels was wrong to see dialectics in science, meanwhile scientists have been using dialectics for decades and are only doing it more and more

My thing with anti-humanist Marxism is that it claims to be the “science” Marxism is supposed to be in opposition to humanism, and yet in light 21st century science on the topic of cognition, its claim to scientific accuracy is unsustainable. Enactive cognition ensures that.

Thought: The difference between western marxists and eastern marxists is that the former had representational views of cognition (the subject/structure dualism they insisted exists is inherently representationalist) whereas the latter had proto-4E views of cognition.

the ontological commitments of enactive cognition are mutually antagonistic with the core presuppositions of neoclassical economics, particularly homo economicus. When you try to immanently examine homo economicus via enactivism, you just produce Marx’s Labor Theory of Value via enacted labor

“Concrete and abstract labor” as used by Marx is virtually identical to “enacted cognition” as used by enactive cognitive theorists. They’re theorizing the same thing on different levels of abstraction. The main point to note is that not all enaction is “socially necessary” as such

We really need to disabuse ourselves in this society of the notion that "speech" is just "ideas" and therefore harmless. Language is the greatest persuasive tool that we have, and those with large platforms don't just hurt feelings but can also motivate violent action with their words.

I do, ultimately, feel empathy for those who wanted to feel hopeful about Syria. I personally, deep down, hoped against hope things would somehow turn out fine, even if I knew they wouldn’t But I’m not gonna forget the slander against those who were pointing out the realities, including me

Videos coming from Syria of executions of minorities. People are excusing it by acting as though those being killed were pro-Assad To say this is highly reminiscent of the rhetoric used to justify the deaths of Palestinians because they’re “Hamas” is an understatement

Rule of thumb: Anyone who uses the term “tankie” unironically isn’t worth listening to about anything. The fact they call those pointing out that what may lie ahead for Syria may be worse than before “Assadists” just shows their analysis is stuck in a Marvel cinematic universe of “good vs bad guys.”

Reading about marxist feminism and seeing, in historical sexist rhetoric in marxist circles (a problem that still exists) similar patterns to ableist and chauvinistic rhetoric in modern organizations 🤔

Per the PFLP:
🔴 Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine:
—
The escalation of zionist aggression against Syria carries dangerous objectives and requires unity in confronting it

In a press statement dated December 8, 2024, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine emphasized that the zionist aggression against Syrian territories carries extremely dangerous implications that necessitate unity in confronting them.

The Front stressed that the zionist enemy’s airstrikes on Syria and its incursions into Syrian territory represent a dangerous escalation of aggression against the peoples and states of the region. The enemy seeks to exploit the current phase of internal Syrian restructuring to achieve renewed aggressive objectives against Syria and its people.

The Front condemned the international and Arab silence regarding this dangerous escalation of aggression against Syria, its land, and its people, calling for a clear and decisive stance against such attacks. It also underscored the need to recognize the gravity of this aggressive escalation and its objectives, emphasizing the importance of unity among all Syrian components in the face of zionist aggression.

Furthermore, the Front reaffirmed its steadfast position in confronting the zionist enemy, which wages a comprehensive war against the peoples of our Arab nation and the region. It called for a unified Arab stance to confront this criminal and aggressor entity.

You guys have got to stop assuming people who live in a country are always experts on geopolitics as it pertains TO their country. Most people in ANY country are not extremely well-versed in the relevant geopolitical matters, meaning they can absolutely, very easily, be incorrect.

See, this is how I know for a fact “tankie” as an insult has no real definition. They call me a tankie for pointing out all that has happened is an advancement of the Greater Israel project. Indeed, I am a tankie for opposing IDF tanks. And in the hours since this post, I have been vindicated.

to be clear, Assad himself is as big a part of why this happened as anything. Just because he’s preferable to what is to come after his ousting, doesn’t mean his ideological and strategic failures that played a part in getting us here in the first place should be ignored

I think we need to be careful about the way we talk about communism sometimes, because while it is true dialectical materialism is objectively a universally applicable framework (something people should be wary of dismissing out of hand), there is often a euro-assumptive way of talking about it
