Correlation? Or causation?

This ads-with-our-dollars move is tailor-made for a derivative claim. I’m willing to be the derivative plaintiff, o/b/o U.S. But I’ve lost track of how many cases I’ve brought pro se, on my own dollar. Is anyone willing to represent me pro bono? Or do I have to do this again all by myself?

Lacking context, I actually thought the Jewish guy being referred to was Jesus. Who, yes, hung out with prostitutes and (Roman imperial) tax collectors and encouraged his disciples to leave their families.

If I thought that the Supreme Court is a political branch, I might wonder whether the Court is trying to take Tre45on’s biggest issue off the table until after the election.

First of all, FOUR questions presented is unheard of. Second, there are subquestions in 3. So we’re at like five or six already. Third, as you say, the invitation to write another QP, which is approved sight unseen, is bizarre. Rules for the rest of us, but not for Tre45on? Why might that be?

The SCOTUS order granting cert in DHS v. DVD is notable for its long list of questions presented—including a fourth (!) Q that basically says to DOJ, “Ask any other questions you want.” Does the Court think there are other issues in the case that DOJ didn‘t pick up on, but will soon? Odd.

Focus the state-dinner invitations on the swing votes? Notably, days before the Long Conference.

“Affordability”? C’mon. It’s a six-syllable, abstract, Latinate noun. My eyes glaze over. Besides, “affordability” is a good thing. You need to add “un“ to make it a bad thing. Seven syllables. So… could we stick with “cost”? Cost at the pump. Cost of health care. Cost of groceries.

I prefer “the Executive.” He’s only one branch of the government. And he is supposed to… execute the laws.

The House doesn’t have a filibuster rule. It only takes a majority to end debate in the House.

Jeremy Bates @batesv45.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
Uh, the House has no influence at all over the Senate’s rules. So good luck with that. The better Q is whether expanding the Court survives a Byrd bath because it’s a money measure.

It’s not as though SCOTUS Justices never change their votes when they get the chance to read the opinion they first said they would vote for.

Not quite correct. In concurring, BK disagreed with the majority on the merits.

But the six-Justice majority apparently disagreed with him on that point. No one, I repeat no one, joined his concurrence. He’s trying to please the Chief and the President at the same time.

And “affordability” isn’t even the right word. It’s six syllables, Latinate, abstract. The word to use is COST.

Folks are asking what Judge Chutkan can do to enforce her order halting Trump’s arch. Well, my case is also before Judge Chutkan. Perhaps she’ll soon hold that citizen-taxpayers have standing to sue federal officials derivatively on behalf of the United States. And their aiders and abettors too.

Hupper Island has tens of houses on it, owned by lots of different people. Sure, the houses are owned privately because, guess what, the government doesn’t own them. But Roberts is far from the only resident! So don’t make the leap to the notion that Roberts owns an entire island. That’s false.

The Roberts order gets the Court past a weekend when Tre45on has invited his people to DC for a big event. Because we all know what happened the last time Tre45on did that and he was mad at another branch of government. Let’s see what Monday brings.
