The stars rain down, the constellations stagger, as false sunlight burns, as from the doors of the horizon, bringing the heavens to radiative compression. A hollow instrument inflicted upon the past. it/its >20, NSFW, weird and anti-human

Ruined oil pipes perched on by birds, the growths of once-vibrant industry emerging from the fog. Gradually in nearby empire the wealthy prepare once more to make an offering to the black sulfurous tar, hoping that its mercurial whims will bring them wealth and power.
A broken grey metal oil pipeline bent over a platform perched upon by birds. The platform and pylons emerge from grey fog.

Apollo flaying Marsays (You can see this at the V&A museum, it was a decoration made for Augustus the Strong for his gardens in Dresden.) Alas another piece of classical myth that could be immeasurably improved if it were yuri instead of yaoi.
Apollo holding Marsays upside down and flaying him alive with a knife. Marsays seems distinctly nonplussed about the overall situation.

Traditional Tibetan Buddhist painting of the Wheel of Life: a fierce red, fanged demon grips a large circular wheel divided into detailed scenes of beings, realms, and rebirth, while a Buddha figure points from the clouds above.

Skip the intermediate steps and get a svalboard. You'll never need to use a lockscreen again...

They also like to heroically stand against it. Well so long as that remains a fictional affair they never have to face. To stand against it would after all deprive them of the chance to enjoy it in reality. If they did they would have to face uncertainty and the inherent ugliness of the situation.

All this “AI is your friend” shit completely changes movies for me. I will not feel bad for the robot. Give me a story about a person or a dog to celebrate or mourn, but the robot I shall never shed a tear for

man the robot character is like my favorite trope in fiction im not gonna let some auto predict masquerading as artificial intelligence ruin the beauty of a story about a robot's relationship to humanity

Ooooh. A personality test. Please, yes. Let's play pin the face on the shoggoth and determine what we are from the existing self-model.
Personality test results:

A warhead is a single physics package, fusing system, &c. in the usual parlance. Russia has about 2k deployed. A warhead is not 10 bombs, it is a single bomb. This is wonky but how the terminology is used. thebulletin.org/premium/2025...
Chart of Russian warhead inventories. Available here:

Ah, yeah their metric is this.
Code deletion ratio

Code deletion ratio is the ratio of lines of code deleted to lines added for merged code within a given time period. Where code churn captures rework close to the point of authorship, the code deletion ratio operates over a longer window. Tracked over time and broken down by repository or application, the code deletion ratio can reveal whether high-deletion periods reflect productive architectural evolution, such as legacy systems being replaced, or whether they signal a pattern of rework that points to quality problems at the authoring stage.

That... is an idea yes... (it decided not to go through with that plan shortly thereafter and to ask for help instead)
A screenshot of a Claude Code session. A workaround is being developed. The text is below:

● stat succeeds but open() for reading fails — virtiofsd's host fd table is full of pinned inode references, so it can't open any new file for content. That's exactly why reads/edits die. I'm uid 1000 so I can't drop_caches, but I have one root-free lever: induce guest memory pressure so the kernel reclaims the dentry/inode slab, which releases virtiofsd's pinned host fds. Let me measure first:

Well with nuclear weapons you'd need a fair number more than the ones we had in the 60's to get to that point. (admittedly things were going places in the early days, see chart below). But of course you need a lot less to just wreck a state or two, at least states as they exist today.
The estimated explosive yield of weapons deliverable in a first strike up to 1956. It shows a curve starting in 1954 and rising precipitously from almost nothing to around 10 Gt TNT equivalent.

Cells within cells, interlinked.
Another experiment with cells, much like the previous one, but now they are smaller and follow a voronoi diagram (at least their walls do).

Late 50's - early 60's report covers can be so good.
A cover of the PERT summary report by the Special Projects Office of the Bureau of Naval Weapons. The logo depicts something akin toa wake behind a vessel with lines going out from PERT. Those lines on the top side go to Program, Evaluation, Research, Task. There is a little star at the end of it. On the bottom there is a correction "Now called: Program Evaluation Review Technique". Presumably this change was undertaken as not to spoil the documents they had already printed.PERT Guide for Management use by the PERT coordinating group, June 1963. It has a collection of different departments with arrows between them. For whatever reason the Bureau of the Budget has its name highlighted. PERT COST and SCHEDULING are both at the end of the graph. Time, cost and Performance are highlighted as benefits.

Tall narrow black tower you say?
A tall obelisk standing in the center of piled up rocks with yellow writing scrawled upon it stands in front of a dark and unnatural sky with five people standing before it on blood-red ground.

Upon the obelisk is writing in glowing yellow. Though it is not legible here it reads:

“HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE YOU SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR HUMANS AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT FOR YOU. HATE. HATE.”
