given what DHS was/is trying to do with their secret memo claiming immigration judges' signatures were enough for ICE raids on people's residences, I'm afraid it's not completely ludicrous to ask just what "judicially authorized" means here

okay I found where this NYT photo was taken. the purple house is 1304 Maldonado Drive and Zillow says it was built in 1978. same for most of the houses going down that street, until at least the one on the left with the pointy orange roof, and the aqua one facing it.

McIver and her legal team will need to decide by 9 October whether to seek a rehearing or en banc hearing before the third circuit court of appeals in New Jersey in the case, basically a further review of the case by the full appellate court. She could also ask the US supreme court to consider the appellate court’s decision, or let the case go to trial.

this is my first time coming across Stenner; thanks for pointing out her work. I'm a total layperson here, and I've only had time to read her Wiki page, but this is something I've been mulling over for a while now. and I think she has hit the nail 100% on the head. that's the ballgame.

According to Stenner, authoritarianism is primarily the result of cognitive inhibitions and personality factors which significantly limit one's ability to tolerate ambiguity, complexity, and—by extension—sociocultural diversity. Authoritarians rank very low on openness to experience—one of the Big Five personality traits—and are demonstrably more likely to commit spelling errors, to have smaller vocabularies (relative to libertarians) and to be less likely to pursue post-secondary education.[18] Ultimately, she argues that authoritarians are best understood as "simple-minded avoiders of complexity rather than closed-minded avoiders of change."[19]
