I'm still waiting on the Ghost Teams proposal where each league is allowed to build one wild card superteam out of players in eliminated orgs and the field suddenly has someone to root for. From an "answering questions" standpoint it's dumb, but it'd be great for viewership and so fun.

Entirely fair, I just worry he's stacking the deck by not defining the goal. I guess what I'm asking is under what conditions can't he claim success? If payroll is 120-130 and no 3+ year deal is signed, he's going to say they're happy with the off-season regardless of statistical projections, right?

...isn't he just describing competent talent acquisition? What team signs expensive players they don't like? Technically he's defined Skubal as a viable target, but there's a 0% chance of that happening, so without at least wide number ranges attached, this feels vague to the point of meaningless.

Feels like a logical move. I like Maki and suspect he's a pretty good coach, but the pitching wasn't great and it felt like a lot of the progress that was made was done at 3rd party labs like Driveline. Trying something different even if just for the sake of seeing what happens feels worth it.

Hey Bobby, appreciate the coverage as always. Can you shed any light on the Jackson decision? Cutting him sort of makes sense given how a Caratini/Jackson duo projects, but carrying Jackson all this time and not using him just to cut him now seems like a weird set of decisions.

When are they finally going to call up Rodriguez? Clemens/Bell/Lee have nothing left to prove, the team isn't playing for anything anymore, and the roster has positional flexibility to find him ABs if they really wanted to. If he has to be on the next opening roster shouldn't they want to see him?

The losing isn't great overall but what's really making these painful to watch is the bullpen they tried to improve at the deadline looking noncompetitive. Last chance for the season on the line, and over the past week the bullpen is walking more than four batters per nine innings with a 5.40 ERA.

I sort of get waiting for the playoff odds to drop below 5% before they stop playing him, but if there's another losing streak Bell could play a lot less to give Emma a look. Not saying they need to cut him, but if/when the playoffs are out of reach there's not much reason to play him regularly.

I like Alex Jackson and think he can be a fit for backup C on 2027 opening roster, but was surprised he was the guy to come back up. Is the Saints roster so limited that a 3rd catcher makes sense? Great piece. Not saying Skenes will be as good as Verlander, but just comparing hyped college power pitchers, prime JV had his ERA vs FIP flip regularly. In a way the odd thing about Skenes is he started on a multi-year run where it all went right. Velo decline isn't great but too early for panic.

He's an unpleasant person and FO was right to get out when they did, but I sort of think he has a point. This is a football town with a baseball team, and ownership has spent decades doing nothing to change that. It's a real shame. Mauer before and Buxton now deserve more than they got from us.

I'm worried by the amount of anti Peggy $$ out there. It's still a primary voter pool which should help Peggy a bit, but I worry her low name recognition outside progressive circles may make that advertising more effective. I think back to when Smith was appointed and most people didn't know her.

I'm viewing the outcome as a coin flip but suspect the results won't be particularly close. My gut tells me Craig will win given all the money behind her, but I'm not particularly confident that is correct. I'm reasonably confident whoever wins will do so by at least 5-7% though, and likely more.

That's entirely fair but based on some of the trade commentary I'm seeing I also think people are underrating Kremer. Not a star but I'm reasonably confident he's at least as good as and probably better than Ober at this point in Ober's career. A very good teen for our new 3/4 starter feels ...okay.

At second base he's #2 in total fWAR in all of baseball and the Twins are in the bottom third of the league at the position. Couldn't they just play him where he's been really good all year and they haven't? I want Royce in the lineup too, but if Alex Jackson is playing 1st can't both fit?

I will give them credit where it's due, I don't think it's possible for a .500 team to provide more drama than they have. Some of said drama has made me want to put my head through a wall, but they've been a team worth talking about pretty much every game, and most franchises don't have that.

I get it's a long season and patience is good but I'm baffled by the decision to see more of Gray when they're fighting for a playoff spot and two top 50 guys are waiting for a turn in late July. Without Buxton this lineup 100% has room for Culpeper or Jenkins since Kreidler can back center/short.

Yeah the double handles can be nice if you're transferring to the oven or as a way to deal with its significant weight when moving it between cooking and serving areas, but when just shifting it around on the stovetop while cooking a long handle would be a nice addition.

They're not cheap but some of the new enamel nonstick pans are really nice. We've started using a Le Creuset signature everyday pan for most stuff, and it's a great balance between nice to cook with and easier to wash than older smooth enamel designs. It's an investment though.

Thoughts on Ha-Seong Kim as a target? He's been awful this year but injuries seem like a plausible explanation and rehab has gone well. Seems like a way to maybe add impact rental talent in exchange for very little, and if he actually turned out to be cooked they could always just call up Culpepper.

That makes sense. Where I get confused is if 29 teams are doing it without a penalty beyond a tax hit so small that it's only discouraging the Twins, isn't the real size of each draft pool just 5% bigger than the numbers say on paper? Why isn't that just the official number used but tax adjusted?

Not suggesting the Twins should actually get this aggressive in either direction but purely as a way to set expectations, if the Twins did Emma Rodriguez for a pitcher who is the best win now player they could get back? Same question in reverse for trading Ryan for a single pure upside prospect.
