Terrible violence has erupted in Russian-occupied Lemberg, where Cossacks are terrorising the local Jewish population; at least 40 Jews have been killed, ostensibly in revenge for a purported robbery in the Jewish quarter.

Some Indian nationalists, not inherently friendly to their British overlords, are still supporting the war effort: "It has taken us 100 years to teach the English how to govern us and we can’t afford the time to begin again on the Germans."

Indians have mixed feelings about the war; many hope their (forced) participation might speed up the calls for reforms, and maybe even independence. Others resent yet another British overreach in Indian interests.

Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller (1793–1865) Lake Wolfgang
Oil painting in an ornate gilt frame, depicting an alpine lake landscape. In the foreground, chalet-style houses with weathered tiled roofs sit among dark green pines on a hillside overlooking the water. A calm, grey-blue lake stretches across the middle of the composition, with a small boat visible on its surface, bordered by wooded shoreline. Behind it rises a range of jagged blue-grey mountain peaks under a pale, hazy sky.

🧵If I were asked this question by a pollster, I would ask "which part of the school curriculum?" It obviously can't be taught in the science class. But might turn up in the history class. I was taught about Calvinist predestination in my Scottish school when we did Burns's Holy Willie's Prayer

I do think Christians of good will should do more to wrest their religion away from the Christofascists. They have a winning argument – Christ’s words of love and charity. Real Christians do many good works, but their religion is being dragged into the gutter by Republican hate. 2/3🧵
