Sometimes throughout an industry Sometimes throughout generations Enshrined in textbooks Taught by masters This is especially true in medicine Where the only thing harder than starting a new good idea is stopping an old wrong one

It takes a lot of time, effort & dedication that is just not available to everyone So ppl rely on celebrity, authority &/or credentials instead But ppl are ppl & anyone can be wrong Sometimes, very well meaning ppl end up believing things that just aren't true And then it propagates 😢

So I always go back to first principles To study & understand the mechanism of action And apply logic, scale & reasonableness tests And so far that's served me well But that approach is not very common

My high school science teacher taught me never to accept a stated position at face value, even if it's popular, or even if the person saying it is famous - it can be dogma, not science That can be true of Rasmussen or revered figures like Einstein (who didn't accept quantum quirks for example)
