in my own opinion? li. it's the charisma. he KNOWS he's attractive. his magnetism and his mind are his two greatest weapons. is he a manipulative drunk asshole? yes. does he become a puddle if he has to put even the slightest amount of effort in when intelligence and charisma fail? also yes.

like i'm basically relegated to lingerie, things that clip through my character's boobs/have no garment support, and zwei fits over here for my fem characters so far y'all, it's ridiculous that any fem body should have less fits than the obscure masc ones do given most modding is done for fem bodies

because even if the character's actions make sense in the moment, if you're not portraying them with a goal in mind, you might actually be unintentionally portraying a completely different narrative from the one you intended for when writing the elaborate backstory. This Kills Believability

the first option might feel more "real" and "true" but real people actually do have goals and values and self-images that they try to stick to, even if those things are inherently flawed and leading them down a terrible path. write your blorbos with intentionality! actually tell the story you WANT!

the backstory can come later. you'll get a more consistent characterization if you have a goal in mind with what you want to say with them and how you want to say it, versus flying by the seat of your pants and writing reactively after your elaborate backstory's already figured out

don't write up a whole backstory and then focus solely on how your character reacts to things around them when actively telling your story, start instead from a point of "what narrative do i want to portray/what story do i want to tell through this character's actions, personality, and design"
