I guess my issue is if "these people" by that definition includes pretty much every white person and also people who weren't considered white or invested in white supremacy, like Mises himself. dated language aside, he definitely comes across as an anti-colonialist by his day's standard.

excerpt from Mises "Liberalism in the Classical Tradition," where Mises states, in my words:
1) colonialism is Europeans using military superiority to enslave and kill non-Europeans while proclaiming the superiority of their culture
2) that's bad
3) if European culture is so great, why does it have to be imposed by force
4) it's the worst thing ever
5) European colonialists should gtfo Africa and Asia

only part I take issue with is the "primitive tribes of Africa" bit, and implicit claim Asian civilizations were estimable and African ones weren't, as there were plenty of African civilizations that got shafted during the rush for Africa.

it's more about the specific claims and how grounded they are in the writer's stated positions. to use the white abolitionist example, it's less like calling William Wilberforce implicitly racist and more like claiming he fought for a corps of black janissaries for use against Napoleon.

it's not unhinged because it hinges on evidence. he lays out an argument with screenshots of what Slobodian says Mises said and what Mises actually said. if the quotes from Slobodian were manufactured or doctored somehow to make that case, THAT would be unhinged. but no one has argued that.

balderdash. coding had a massive PR campaign in the 2000s-2010s. there were hundreds of thinkpieces about the internet in the 1990s and computing in general had to get sold to clerks and secretaries over two decades. electrification in the USSR was so hyped there are jokes about it in Animal Farm.
