I'm curious, does anyone else get ads that push products with Huberman's seal of approval on @kavehmd.bsky.social podcasts, or is it just me?

Why is the vast majority of emergency management public messaging stuck in the, "be aware, make a plan, build a kit" rut? How is that truly helpful and advancing public awareness of what the field actually does?

An unpopular opinion for those who smoke meats: if you can't do it well with basic equipment then you don't need to buy that $1k+ pellet smoker. On a side note, I made some fantastic smoked chicken on the Weber kettle tonight.

Apparently more than half of the locations in my county that were eligible to receive broadband under the BEAD program are no longer eligible, and the commissioners are surprised. Unfortunately, this is what they voted for and they cannot see the connection.

It's going to be 100⁰+ this weekend with high humidity levels, so naturally this is a great weekend for us to burn a house for training. Yay us!

It sure would be nice if some of the maga crowd started caring about unelected bureaucrats again. It's almost as if that wasn't actually their (the maga folks) problem in the first place. 🤔

Nothing motivates you to work harder than seeing someone you know fail upwards due to their incompetence. It's especially troublesome given the nature of their recent appointment.

I know it's been said before, but the number of people who are ok with government overreach when it suits their needs is shocking. The "rules for thee" crowd on both sides needs to get some perspective before everything implodes.

Smoked some pork on the Weber kettle today and there was almost not enough breeze to keep the coals going well. Have no fear though it all worked out in the end.

He's right. This exact thing happened during the height of the COVID pandemic. Large hospital systems gobbled up PPE and all the small ones were left fighting for scraps and paying through the nose for it. The scale will likely be larger this time.

Would you consider a politician "successful" if they primarily repealed laws to make things more effective instead of simply adding to existing laws? As in, are we measuring the success of our elected officials in only one way and who's to say it's the correct way?

I feel like there are a lot of government programs that are just now feeling the pain of inconsistent funding that public health has had to deal with for decades. Welcome to the club y'all. Maybe now instead of just watching it happen we can figure out a way to fix it for all of us.

I wonder if people who oppose any kind of remote work remember how much of a time suck it was to have to travel to in-person meetings for literally everything. I have a feeling those folks have never worked a job that relies on interacting with people outside their own office.

The current republican strategy.
On one side of the picture a person puts out a fire before it becomes a problem. On the other side another person ignores the fire until it becomes huge before finally putting it out and being bailed as a hero while our first person gets no praise.

The governor's wife is visiting my kid's school tomorrow and students were asked to wear Western wear bc of it. I don't like pandering to a politician from anyone, I like it even less for the politician's wife, and I downright hate that they're asking kids to do it.

Seeing both the real time and aftermath of the dust storms in the Midwest (e.g. massive pileups & many, many accidents) makes me realize that there are a lot of agencies who simply were not prepared, and that we really need to start valuing lives over commerce.

Have you ever been to a restaurant that was understaffed during rush hour? Orders seem to take forever and they are inefficient bc they don't have enough staff. That's what is about to happen with our gov. Lack of thoughtful staffing & indiscriminate firings will lead to MORE inefficiency, not less.

I wonder how many people realize that the primary reason for a federal program to exist over a state one is bc the states couldn't, or more likely wouldn't, fund the program in the first place. Turning things "back to the states" will only result in those programs going away.

Most normal people read the novel "1984" as a warning about a dystopian future. Our current government seems to have read it as an instruction manual.

Our department had a call to a bad wreck between semis on the interstate, as we approached the scene with the engine lights and sirens blaring full tilt and smoke rolling off one of the semis, the medic chopper cut through the smoke from above and almost dropped right on us. That was a day.

I keep thinking about how my high school did away with a policy only to bring it back under a different name and how I have a feeling that trump is narcissistic enough to do exactly that. His ego is so fragile it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he re-issues some EOs just so they bear his name.
