Tracking down reliable mesoamerican history online is a special kind of hell — so many sites and articles still spouting decrepit theories from decades ago or heavily focusing on the “taboo” elements, many of which were disproven ages ago but haven’t left the pop culture sphere of “trivia”

Hiding from the rain beneath a dead god's altar, not all too happy about it

Simon, a sphinx, rests beneath a headless statue of a strange creature whose neck is overgrown with black sunflowers. Simon doesn't seem too thrilled about this.

Simon and @personman-reborn.bsky.social's Nioma in the style of Khnopff's Caress of the Sphinx

Nioma, a chunky blue and white taur with bear paws and a whale's tail, and Simon, a chunky brown sphinx with jaguar patterning and a long mane. The two nuzzle each other with closed eyes. Nioma's hand cradles Simon's arm, and Simon's paw rests on Nioma's chest.

Digital art of a girl with her eyes hidden by her hair holding a bright light before her. Four mechanical wings and wires spread behind her

Digital art of an orange, hooded, bipedal mech with a bow arm shooting an energy bolt while its white cape billows behind it. The bolt causes a glitchy effect

Digital painting of a person showing their back to the viewer. On their back is a glowing mechanical prosthetic that mirrors a marking down their eye. There is quite a bit of scarring around the prosthesis. They are dressed only on a red cape with gold trim that drapes down to reveal their back

Digital illustration of a collared and leashed man gripping a leash that says BITE RISK. He is blonde, odd-eyed and has stitching down his face. One side of the stitch is pale white skin and on the other is a blueish tone. He looks displeased.

I can SEE some improvement since the start of the month and I’m positively giddy about it. At long last able to draw my favorite critters without somethin feelin off. We are so back

020

Bargonauts @bargonauts.bsky.social · 22/07/2026

Very funny to me that I’ve focused so hard on learnin to draw Simon’s dadbod that all humans and sphinxes I sketch got influenced by it — conscientious effort for each AF attack to *not* give them the fat he has

Bargonauts @bargonauts.bsky.social · 21/07/2026

I do want … to find more pals to doodle or talk about OCs togetha with, cuz it’d be great fun to draw Simon (human or sphinx) with more folks’ critters. Just gotta wrestle the social anxiety over it…

Last time I properly drew Sphinx Simon in clothes was for my long and winding worldbuildin rabbit hole on how Hyenthrakuul Sphinxes wear clothes, when they do choose to wear them, which I don’t think ever made it over here — bonus lore friendly dad jeans for him

Simon, a chunky sphinx, in four outfits. One looks like a horse blanket. One is a tunic and pants. Two are different variations on robed designs.

Spells for the Dead Remembered -- Simon's gravefellow magics for Hyenthrakuul

Hyenthrakuul doodling: Standard eastern Mejan-Ves clinic to Aeael-Beli-Naskara for alchemical/surgical aid -- featuring altars, tables, cleric-surgeon, patient, and patient's emotional support friend

An isometric doodle of a small interior clinic for surgery and alchemy; in this case, gender-affirming care via top surgery. A number of shelves and tables are scattered around the place. The surgeon, an elf, wipes her gloves. The patient, a sphinx, sleeps on the floor with bandages around his chest and belly. The patient’s emotional support friend, a cat-man Purven, sleeps on a chair in the corner.

Artfight attack of nuffified (on instagram/toyhouse)'s Toor, a wonderfully somber lonesome wanderer. Tried a more painty style than usual for this fine fella... #artfight

A digital illustration of Toor, a humanoid creature with root-like hands, stumps for feet, a long torso, and a mask-like head. He holds a raven in his hand, who looks up at him with great intent. They're surrounded by olive trees at dusk, shades of yellow and green cast over the small grove.

Scribbly detail sheet for Simon's sphinx form

A reference sheet of Simon, a sphinx, stylized in a cartoony image. It notes how he's partially deaf; how his facial expressions favor showing his bottom row of teeth; the sources of his scars (top surgery, monstrous Anamnesis claws, cigars, and fireball shrapnel); how he casts magic through his paws/tail/face and voice; how he enjoys catnip and (formerly) tobacco. It also shows thematic albums for him: KGatLW's Polygondwanaland, Kate Bush's Aerial, Gil Scott-Heron's Pieces of a Man, Joan Baez's Farewell, Angelina, Pink Floyd's A Momentary Lapse of Reason, Ella Fitzgerald's Ella Swings Gently with Nelson, and Murder By Death's Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon.
