I replayed 2013 Tomb Raider recently and I had forgotten how it basically takes her an hour of game time (barely a day in-universe!) to go from struggling to kill a deer to gunning down half a dozen men at a clip. And a couple hours after that she's blowing away whole forts full of guys with rockets

I think it can be excused in works where it's not load-bearing. Some random out-of-the-way assets that weren't human-made don't compromise the very human heart of that story. It doesn't diminish the incredible performances of the voice and mo-cap actors, the beautiful OST, or the excellent gameplay.

It has been extremely cool to see indie devs slowly retracing the path of early game development. We went from "games that could have been on the SNES" to "games that could have been on the Saturn" to "games that could have been on the n64" at a pretty steady clip.
