Local navy base “HMAS Kuttabul” (aboriginal word for wonderful) was named in memory of the ferry Kuttabul, used as a sleeping berth for sailors at Garden Is. It was hit by a Japanese midget sub M24 on the night of 31 May/1 June 1942. RIP, 21 died. More- youtu.be/_HQi-iH6eqY
