In fact they loved him so much they even made a fanservicey spinoff series of his youth days. Why'd you have to grab each other's balls after a sushi battle, I have no idea.

Speaking of Oishinbo's convoluted female sushi chef storyline, Kirara's Shigoto is a sushi battle manga with a female protagonist. Her rival treats her as an equal, but not from interest in gender equality, but because the creators were far more interested in making him as gay-coded as possible.

Lilac was based on a stage play that performed the same way-the same story with an all female/male cast. Considering the theatre arts scene is generally popular with women, curious on Front Wing's direction on the overall marketing- which seems to put more focus on the all-female version. Yuri fans?

Oh yeah, the Steam store page for Lilac(where you can finally see a bunch of Oyari Ashito-drawn men) is up! You are required to by either the all-female cast version or the all-male cast version; same story with just minor changes. Whichever you buy, the other one will be available on DLC-_-

However if you're like Oyari Ashito and insist Princess Maker-likes should have some perverseness in one way or another, you'd be disappointed. Volcano Princess is very female-audience oriented. Still, you can romance boys, girls, or go poly. and for all it offers, it’s pretty cheap.

100

Bapsago @bapsago.bsky.social · 26/11/2025

Ahh the pressure! But yeah Long Live the Queen is close to a survival game parodying PM. Volcano Princess set the new standard for Princess Maker-like games; a perfect example of how to redefine the genre. Its popularity is well deserved. I actually saw a lot of its influence in Magical Princess.

110

Bapsago @bapsago.bsky.social · 25/11/2025

Of course China had a surge in the child rearing genre thanks to Volcano Princess, but it's indeed a rare case where a Japanese commercial game took this much effort in a PM-like. I don't know much about the Magical Series/board games in general, but it must have done well. magical-bakery.com

store.steampowered.com/app/4109100/... The Demo version for Magical Princess is up on Steam! It's a very rare high production Princess Maker-like developed in Japan. This is based on a family-friendly board game series, so I expect it would be overall wholesome. But you still can make crack bread.

I'm quite wary of early access games(Wasteland 2 traumatized me) so not sure whether or not I'll pick this up or not(but it's quite obvious the team is struggling financially), but it's nice that English speakers can enjoy the early access version if intrigued.
