Bei der Eröffnungsfeier der Olympischen Spiele 2016 in Rio de Janeiro spielte Nachhaltigkeit eine zentrale Rolle. Jeder der rund 11.000 Athleten erhielt beim Einmarsch ins Maracanã-Stadion einen Baumsetzling, der symbolisch für die Wiederaufforstung des Regenwaldes stand.
