In March, Baobab contributed to a report on Home Office asylum accommodation, calling for fewer subcontractors, wellbeing inspections, and age-appropriate housing near support. The Home Affairs report backs what we see: chaotic contracts, weak oversight, and repeated moves that derail young lives.

Too often child refugees are wrongly judged adult and unfairly treated as such, leaving them at risk of harm and deprived of the support they need and should be entitled to given their age. Vital new report from @helenbamber.bsky.social & the RMCC on how age determination at border is broken. The Home Office has a legal duty to safeguard children -- not to determine anyone's age. All children with no parental support, regardless of nationality, need care.

The bullying of some of the most vulnerable people in our society simply never stops, does it. The young people in our community all arrived as isolated minors, terrified, and scarred by their experiences. They deserve the simple chance of rebuilding a life here -- not more targeted cruelty.

Baroness Lister referencing a policy roundtable she convened on 20 Nov., and where we were able to raise concerns about visual age assessments conducted on arrival by the Home Office. A direct consequence of such practice is indeed children in adult accommodation as is by now well documented.
