Im p much doing everything but withdrawing from the affiliate program. Everything that looks like a dark-pattern is getting taken off twitch. No more stream streaks, no more hype trains. Emotes moving to BTTV. Twitch has decided not to stop until the dopamine vaccum is maximized and Im sick of it.

I am really just tired of it all. I dont understand why these fucks cant just exchange goods & services for currency. This gambling-centric, line-go-up-at-all-costs, speculative, funny-money grift that's driving our whole economy is doing everything it can to maximize suffering and I'm SICK of it.

The tiktokification is taking over twitch with endless scrolling feeds being the sexy lil thing with all the tech overlords due to it encouraging addiction-like cycles of unbroken consumption. If that wasn't bad enough, the shouts basically incentivize parasocial girlfriend-experience type bullshit

The worst part is how insidious it is. Its not straight-forward, folks watching yt shorts, blacking out, and coming to surrounded by blood. But no doubt in my mind that this current rise of fascism is greatly perpetuated by fearmongering against minorities being good for viewer retention.

Poly count CAN compound out of control with things like lighting, because a lot of graphics are calculated by faces. But you could have a character with alpha, base color, normals, IOR, metallic, and other all each at 4k plus resolution. All those textures are way more taxing, but more worth.

A banban bird WILL megafuck your performance. The tech nowadays is just advanced enough that a REASONABLY topologized model wont be the biggest part of your budget. Make your topo only as dense as needed for smooth animation, then use stuff like normal-maps, bakes, shaders, etc for finer details.

Stop Using Color Ramps For Toon Shaders

Extra note: If you ONLY wanted to do grayscale, you could strip the base texture's hue so that you were just left with the saturation & value. You could also just do some math to the value using a float curve or math function & have the color subject to the scene lighting. youtu.be/7Pi5AUwyIJU&...

And the final result would be the original object with the original texture, but all the colors are just colors from the pallet you chose in the color ramp.

Then, I separate out the object's hue, saturation & value. I pipe the sat. & value to the end so they are preserved. Then I pipe the hue thru a color map. The color map is where you would define your desired pallet. Remember to use constant interpolation so there is no gradient between colors.

A blender shader-node tree.

The first node takes the material base-color from the object.

The "color" value of the material base-color is piped into a "Seperate color" node set to HSV

The Hue is put into a Color ramp node set to RGB mode and "Constant interpolation." This particular node has a gradient from green to purple, with 3 middle stops at varying saturation within that color ramp.

The color from this color ramp is then recombined with the original Saturation & Value, then piped to the final material output.

Im only familiar with blender's shader system, but I would imagine there's a similar solution in other systems. First, we start with our object, textured the way we would like it. Here I have a cube with a generic rainbow texture on it.

Quantization is a thing in audio too! In audio production, quantization would be converting the track to a time signature and making every note drop on the right quarter-note, 8th note, etc.

The biggest disruption was that the incentives I had worked out were intended to be primarily art raffles. Considering how much the scope of the current modeling project has been, promising any projects for other folks right now would be over-promising.
