Nunames increased .nu domain name pricing without notifying me! 😡 What is up with a bunch of domain names' $10 price increase?! So annoying...

Too much to do. All sites have been down for nearly a month since I didn't want to stick with HostGator. I'm still trying to figure out where to migrate my sites to. Some hosts are overpriced and underpowered. 🙃

I need to do a massive transfer of files today. No more HostGator for me! It's too expensive for hosting static websites. I wish I had learned about Cloudflare Pages, Vercel, Netlify, and Supabase way earlier.

Wow, I've been working on this one project for 3 weeks already. I was going to keep this project simple, but the more I work on it, the more features and pages I keep adding. 😂 I should be working on another basic project, but this one is more exciting. lol

It's mine. 😘 And now, my portfolio is complete.

Interesting... I guess it's not possible to have animated cursors anymore with .ani and .gif? I just see CSS and JS workarounds in my search results. When did this change? I remember .ani cursors actually working even in the mid-2000s... Was it just supported by IE and older versions of Firefox? 🙃

I'm almost done with the splash page I made for one of my most favorite characters. I kinda like how it looks right now, but I'm on the fence about the background colors. 🐬🍺

The era that I feel nostalgic for didn't last that long. But the Facebook/Reddit/Twitter/YouTube era has already lasted 20 years. The early-to-mid-2000s was the LiveJournal/Xanga/MySpace era. I miss that era, too, but that was basically the beginning of the end of the old internet. 😢

I really miss the late-1990s/early-2000s, when shrine websites, mailing lists, forums, and IRC chats were super active. The internet felt like a real community back then. Twitter and Discord chats just don't compare. It's kinda crazy to think of how stagnant the internet has become post-Facebook.

* Everyone has been losing ownership of their own spaces on the internet due to centralization on social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, etc) - and now, AI. Bluesky gives that ownership back to users. It feels like old Twitter here, but an upgraded version. 💖

...(3) provide the public with what legit websites exist on the web without relying on search engine rankings (which are being eliminated by AI), (4) prevent username squatting, (5) stop impersonations as URLs serve as identity verification, and (6) merge web 1.0 + 2.0 with web 3.0*. 🔻

The main reason I wasn't a fan of URLs for usernames was because I thought they were too long. They're actually quite brilliant and provide multiple benefits: (1) make non-.com/.net/.org URLs easier to remember and linked directly to the individual, (2) make linking website in bio unnecessary... 🔻

At first, I wasn't a big fan of the default bsky.social usernames and custom usernames here. But now, I think the latter is fun. I get to see some creative (sub)domain names here. 😂 It also gives more people the opportunity to get the username they want via domains. Registrars must be happy. lol

This reminded me that I need to let one of my .co domains (for a blog I've been working on) expire, because the person who owns the .com wants $10,000+. They went from $3,000 to $10,000, probably because of my blog adding value. LOL Sorry, but I'll stick with .net. I'm just a hobbyist, not a biz.

I'd contemplated using a dropcatch service myself, but paying $70+ or $300+ for just a domain name, let alone a .org domain name, is outrageous. I think I'd rather let the scalpers waste their money on it. They can keep dreaming of selling it for four figures. lol

🌱 selphie @ balamb garden 🌱 @balamb.garden · 26/05/2025

Even a .org domain I've been eyeing for years (that was unfortunately registered by a scalper recently via dropcatch service) has zero value. No one is going to pay $1000+ for a .org, even if the domain name contains popular words. There's a reason it's been repeatedly dropped by other scalpers. 🤣

If you look at the domain history, you'll see how many domainers failed to flip the domain name over the years. It has no value to anyone but FFX fans. I wish failed domainers/scalpers would understand that and do some research. 😂

Managed to get yunalesca.com yesterday! I had a chance to snag it many years ago, but I was on the fence about it at the time. I regretted not pulling the trigger once a domain squatter bought it to flip a few days later. But now, it's mine! 😤

I got around to fixing the link hover issue I was having on one of my websites. One piece of code was causing the whole website to lag. Now, on to the next challenge... 😅

I really wish I had signed up for Google Apps a year or two earlier, like back in 2011. People with 50 or more user licenses are so lucky. I only have 10. 🙃

Wow, Google Workspace sets up e-mail aliases automatically with Cloudflare servers! So much more convenient than when I had to set it up with Porkbun and HostGator. Now, I wonder how good Cloudflare's e-mail routing is...
