In the hospital I couldn’t even cry because I was so numb and in shock. It really fucks with you when literally everything you own literally turns to ashes. I still have pretty much no clothes. These headphones are one of my oldest possessions now purely because they just happened to be in the car.

I still remember thinking to myself that this was it. Looking to my brother and and processing everything in real time. I just looked at him and said “we probably lost the cats but we’re gonna make it” and if I’m being honest I really didn’t think we would. I just had to hold out hope.

I’m doing really well and am super proud of myself but some days I just can’t get the fire out of my head. I can smell the smoke. Feel the heat. I get flashbacks to standing there helpless waiting to be rescued from a 3rd story window.
