I try to help people understand this so we don't just automatically suggest lowering tuition as a silver bullet college affordability remedy when lots of public institutions already have low tuition

In real terms, public undergraduate tuition today is less than half of what it was twenty years ago – and this is without taking rising family income into account www.lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2026/09/the-...

Tonight was about understanding The State in public policymaking. Someone used feudalism as an example and I got to explain how that never existed and recommend readings. This is what @lollardfish.bsky.social and @profgabriele.com have done to me. buttondown.com/ModernMediev...

I enjoyed the couple considering making the person with a lower income become a full-time resident of the NY property (the other one would continue to list their CT home) but my favorite was this person who didn't realize her second home in NY would count (even AI couldn't help find an exemption!)
Screenshot of article which reads: Jennifer Landau-Carter, a retired diplomat who now lives in Paris, had always intended to sell the Greenwich Village townhouse that she inherited after finishing its yearslong, multimillion-dollar renovation. Once she received a pied-à-terre tax notice in the mail, the decision to sell her childhood home got even easier.

“You get this letter and you’re like, ‘Wait, what? Me?’ ” she said.

Landau-Carter claims her property isn’t a pied-à-terre because it hasn’t been habitable while under construction. She said she spent 3½ days combing through the Department of Finance website, filling out forms and consulting AI to contest the tax, which would put her on the hook for more than $64,000. The Greek Revival home is listed for around $20 million.
