What's the best used 10" or larger x86 tablet under €200 to throw linux onto? Something that could act as a home-automation kind of station, surveillance, perhaps while also running a server? The idea is to mount it via VESA on the wall, like.

Two untested ThinkPad Edge sold as parts for €10 each turned out to be working. This is your [timeperiod]ly reminder to buy old ThinkPads, especially in this Altman-economy.

This is the latest safe script to check if any Arch linux based systems you've got are infected, due to careless usage of AUR. github.com/nightdevil00... AUR has never even pretended to be safe, even Steam lets malware games go live sometimes. Surely not a campaign trying to make Arch look bad huh?

Got a want and need for a used x86 Tablet with either several USB-C or the ability to work as an external monitor with HDMI input, but what are the options for full functionality in linux now? Surface or Surface Pro of specific generations? Can one grab a properly specced Lenovo Yoga Tablet instead?

No idea what has changed but Davinci Resolve is suddenly fine and functional in linux. Like the only quirks were downloading the regular installer, putting it in the folder of an AUR assistant, then making the package. That's what I told myself. Then I realized last time I tried was last summer.

This week I've spoken the gospel of old thinkpads that keep the thinkpad vibe and repairability and durability, four times, including this very post. No more "can you help me with my macbook" and it's an ancient model that cannot even sideload into a usably modern browser for usage on certed sites.

One linux oddity I've got is that I need resizable bar active (in bios!) to be able to play Monster Hunter Wilds at all, or it'll dump on startup. But if I leave it off, the performance is vastly better and more stable in all the games and software, frame-pacing goes from migraine to flawless. Eh?

For all the good that Gimp 3.0 brought, it is a uselessly unstable slow bloated laggardy pile of shiiiiiiite I'd rather not use unless hard-killing the per-effect undos that seem to be related to it all. Maybe a Ryzen 7845 with 32 gigs of ram isn't enough for it. When saving files, it's like a C64.

Microsoft is screwing up Windows so rapidly that I wonder if they're on the list of corporations and organizations being slowly and silently terminated on purpose just so that a foreign power can purchase patent portfolios from them on the day they give up and start selling off. It keeps happening.

Best effin purchase made this year was the ThinkPad X230. No backlit keyboard but thinklight is nice, i7 model, the battery is surprisingly healthy, screen is superb, strong sturdy reliable. I just want to give it the stupendously rare dock with a BR drive, if BR films can be viewed in linux.

ThinkPad X230 first impressions compared to the X100e: - Looks and feels like a serious business unit aimed at people wearing suits. - I feel sturdiness, weight, cost - Great screen, is this IPS? Got the i7 powered one. - Boots quickly, feels rapid in response, nice to type on. - I love it so much.

Wanted an encounter with a dragon, a proper mountain-sized dragon. Could not figure it out. Not my style to have a dragon via magic morph into a humanoid no matter how elder it is, feeling it should be natural-science accurate, and why would a dragon disgrace itself and become a humanoid even temp?

We've been talking to our Windows computers forever. Especially when they crash and burn for no reason, or force-install something without your permission and then announce it's going to restart in a minute, or when it chokes on trying to display a 20 file folder w/o thumbnails or ridiculous sizes.

To whom it may concern, MX Linux was the only way I could play 1080p videos smoothly on a Thinkpad X100e running an MV-40 that's several times faster than Netbook Atoms. Next in line to try was Puppylinux. Now I gotta grab a 4gb DDR2 SODIMM pair and replace the backlight and it'll be maxed out.
