Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 10/08/2025Someone asked a question about coloring for camouflage and I've been going insane trying different techniques. Video dropping soon. 0180
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 20/07/2025Lydia drew a tribute for our first ever customer in Saudi Arabia. Video coming soon. We've now shipped comics to almost every region of the world! 1110
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 18/06/2025Did you know that Lydia and I have a one-page comic in this anthology? And did you know the anthology is Eisner nominated? AND did you know I went to Forbidden Planet in NYC and it's on a special rack??? 0100
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 18/06/2025Got a ton of love for this piece lately, so we uploaded the full, uncut video of Lydia pencilling and inking it! Only took her about 45 mins. www.patreon.com/posts/uncut-... 0142
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 15/06/2025Still think this is one of Lydia's best (and most underrated) drawings. Every time we feature it in a short, it doesn't catch on. So I'm just going to keep posting it places until people acknowledge how fire all that water is. 38913
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 27/05/2025Our next longform lettering video clocks in at just over 16 minutes, but it's packed full of goodness. I will always brag about how much info we can pack into our videos, when other channels would bloat it out to 30-60 mins for the same info. 0110
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 22/05/2025Just dropped our first uncut, full, real-time coloring video! An hour from start to finish, beginning with line art, ending with a fully rendered piece. Available on Patreon. 0100
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 21/05/2025Every time I order a book from Taschen, I am not prepared for what an absolute UNIT it is. 0120
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 21/05/2025The Wikipedia for Starwolf has something we should ALL strive for with our work: 050
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 15/05/2025I fear my "don't make your lettering too complicated" video is just going to make people want to do stuff like this. Truly the DARE program of lettering videos... 0131
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 12/05/2025I got a text from Lydia about her vintage nib collection, to which I responded "um, what vintage nib collection??" and it turns out she has dozens of 100 year-old nibs and you know we're definitely making videos about them... 0190
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 25/04/2025Latest lettering video had an incredibly kind response from the tourette's community and those with tics. It took a lot of research, but this was the lettering system I tried to build. Working on the second video that clarifies these decisions even more. 0201
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 02/04/2025Can’t stop thinking about this single example from Scott McCloud and how many storytelling problems this solves if you need to end a sequence. 0172
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 31/03/2025Cool guide for all the stories that influenced the most recent issue of our comic. Also can we just talk about how disturbingly prescient "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream" remains? 0160
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 31/03/2025Throwback to that time Steamboat Willie entered the public domain and I attempted to shade the original poster like a 90s manga. 0252
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 26/03/2025I’ve always loved this photo of kids in the west village reading comics in the 40s. Every time I’m here I always wonder what storefront it was. Best I can do is this awesome 1940s cigar sign. 0110
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 19/03/2025Latest short is the most dramatic telepathic conversation you've ever read. www.youtube.com/shorts/Q2-4q... 0201
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 16/03/2025Today’s reading list: I’ve finally made my way to volume 5 of the IDW TMNT series. Along with a revisit of Silent Voice, which I’ve read before but wanted to check again for specific use of lettering. #comics #tmnt #manga 2160
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 15/03/2025Sigh. My voice sounds professional and I get this reaction a lot when I narrate our videos. I've never used AI voice gen and never will use AI voice gen when creating Bad Ink content. Sorry that I actually balance levels and it doesn't sound like heavy breathing into an iphone mic. 5251
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 13/03/2025The vast majority of lettering questions are really questions about writing a scene. I'm kidding here, but I'm really not, also. 2153
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 11/03/2025Hey look a completely above-board and legitimate brand partnership request email. 2121
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 11/03/2025 Watching the latest John Oliver and thought for a second this lady was wearing our logo tee. Pretty bummed when I paused and looked closer. 090
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 08/03/2025So much to unpack here. But perhaps anyone defending AI as “it’s actually hard and takes longer than you think” should instead wonder about investing that time in practicing drawing. 2292
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 07/03/2025Listening to the Hobbit audiobook while I work and I'm struck by how much vibrant color Tolkien describes. The movies really desaturated the characters to death. But the 1990 Hobbit graphic novel is so correct. 1151
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 07/03/2025We don't talk enough about how amazing David Wenzel's art was for the 1990 Hobbit graphic novel. I mean, people do talk about it. But it's still not enough. 0130
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 24/02/2025When you spend hours making a belch tutorial and you did too good a job and the belching is too gross for people and they swipe away and your belch tutorial doesn't get any views. 😭🤢😭🤢😭🤢 2261
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 24/02/2025We've still got some signed copies of Interdimensional, for anyone who missed the original Kickstarter. 1151
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 15/02/2025Okay look, I usually don’t engage in “these kids today” discourse but as someone who makes tutorial content and manages comments, media literacy with younger people is starting to actually concern me. 3150
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 14/02/2025You asked, we deliver. For the first time in a LONG time, you can buy original Lydia ink art on our site. Prices are reasonable, everything original, packed and shipped by the artist herself. badinkstudios.com/shop/origina... 0154
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 07/02/2025Reminder to fellow artists and content creators that the TikTok ban was not cancelled, it was only delayed. WaPo: 2141
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 06/02/2025Lydia scanned a bunch of her inkwash pieces and I'm experimenting with ways to color them digitally. Very challenging and requires a light touch. 1182
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 06/02/2025The nexus point in the multiverse where all my interests coincide is a single collected edition of American Flagg that was introduced by Michael Moorcock. 070
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 06/02/2025There's a specific version of reality that has only ever been made accessible to Gary Larson, Mitch Hedburg, Steven Wright, and Jack Handey. And they all were given personalized portals at birth from which to pull specific bits of comedy into our world. 1130
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 04/02/2025I like to pretend this isn’t a basketball reference and is in fact you confessing your love of the obscure Polish heavy metal band 000
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 02/02/2025Lydia scanned a bunch of her inktober drawings and I'm kicking off a series coloring them with unusual or unexpected palettes. I'll throw the palettes and line art files up on Patreon if anyone wants to experiment themselves. 1272
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 02/02/2025I have learned the hard way that people asking artists “what is this style called?” are often AI prompters looking for words to input into midjourney etc. So may I offer this to my fellow artists as an answer: 4398
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 26/01/2025In a lot of our videos, I call dip pen and brush inking "analog inking". Being totally honest, I do it because I think it's an apt way to describe such a classic way of working. I also half do it because it makes people flood the comments telling me I sound stupid and the engagement goes crazy. 4220
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 26/01/2025Next Patreon video is a 3 hour behemoth. Start-to-finish process video of lydia pencilling and inking this screaming underwater robot. Still one of my faves she's ever done. 1151
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 24/01/2025So we sell tapes on our site that I dub myself. We sold so many that I killed my tape deck. But I used the money I made selling tapes to buy a new tape deck. So now I can make more tapes! Tapes still available on our site. 0111
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 22/01/2025Doing a deep dive video about my color inspirations. And it’s mostly just 70s marvel tbh. I am in love with this era and this staff of colorists’ sensibilities. 0101
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 16/01/2025Bad ink lore. From 2004. When I asked Lydia for a pencil drawing on Bristol board so I could practice being an inker. Not bad for a teenager learning brush and India ink. 1160
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 16/01/2025This longform color video is on week 5 and I've only cut about 7 minutes of a 15 minute runtime. But it's so good already, and I'm revealing all the color inspirations for my own work. Can't wait for people to see it. 0161
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 15/01/2025“You know, with Neil Gaiman, the more I learn about that guy the more I don’t care for him.” 0101
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 10/01/2025Reminder that we actually sell comics again, which is actually wild. #comics #manga 182
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 19/12/2024We always champion indie and underground comics. But Lydia and I like and respect the great superhero stories too. Today is a fantastic day for a true icon. #superman 0100
Bad Ink Studios @badinkstudios.bsky.social · 14/12/2024Lydia did an original, one-off ink drawing of our chile man! Shoutout Jeff for being so invested in our work! 1190
