#45-54 Wolves Upon the Coast Not the most complex binding I've ever done, but this was a fun little project for my tabletop group. A friend did all of the typesetting and I got as creative as I could given the circumstances
Ten hand bound pamphlets of Wolves Upon the CoastThe spines of ten pamphlets. There is a leather strip running along the spine and there are simple beaded decorationsThe interior of the pamphlets. These pages illustrate various tables and rules for the game.

As with all things, you can fairly blame this on Schumer and Jeffries.

There is a snowball's chance in hell that everyone could rally behind Troy Jackson, whose policies are practically the same. But he would have to stop being selfish and drop out first.

It helps that most of the dialog is done by one person. Also DE has an army of lunatic fans who catalog all of the voice lines in searchable databases. I only had to doctor a few lines.

I would really try to remove the glue if you can. Maybe put the book in a press to keep them in place while you're working. If you do that, a strip of cloth is a great addition for strength. If you can't get the glue off, a cloth will only hold the book together after the spine breaks

No problem! If you are actually separating the pages, you will need to re-glue them or they will fall out. I would recommend looking at a video of how that's done. youtu.be/bV3hmgbauCE

And if you don't have PVA, white school glue is a pretty close substitute
110
Badgertide (Boarhide Bindery) @badgertide.bsky.social · 20/02/2026
Also be careful not to separate the pages while you're at it, though that can be fixed
110
Badgertide (Boarhide Bindery) @badgertide.bsky.social · 20/02/2026
I would scrape the glue off first and then reapply a layer of PVA before putting the cover back, but sure! Just gently heat the glue and reapply it

I never did share my new boys. Halley and Herschel are still around, but say hello to Kuiper, Sagan, Fowler, and Fenrir!

A slow day today. I have a couple of copies of Moby Dick that need to be covered, so I made a big roll of blue bookcloth. I prefer to fill cotton cloth with starch paste and blue acrylic

First off, they wouldn't be campaigning on that even if they were in power. Second, they are the second largest political party on the planet. They have power and they don't know how to use it. How was trump able to push an agenda when he was a single person not even in office?

You CANNOT think that the extent of Democratic power consists of 260 democrats in Congress the Supreme Court? This is identical to Hakeem Jeffries bitching that Liberal voters are yelling at him for being a doormat. "What do you want ME to do? We don't have the power! Go talk to the republicans!"
200
Badgertide (Boarhide Bindery) @badgertide.bsky.social · 24/06/2025
No. Bullshit. ALL of that is power. Power doesn't just mean "the things we can do in Congress provided we have votes". Power is also the ability to get people on your side. You may as well say that billionaires have no power because they're not elected officials.
100
Badgertide (Boarhide Bindery) @badgertide.bsky.social · 24/06/2025
tl;dr They have so many options that don't require having majority power. They don't want to use them now and they didn't want to use them even when they had majority power.
100
Badgertide (Boarhide Bindery) @badgertide.bsky.social · 24/06/2025
I would guess both, to some extent. But unwillingness is easier to observe. If they WANTED to use their power, they could simply attack republicans based on the evil things that they do. It's not hard. Maybe they literally don't know how to do that? That's pretty concerning.

Badgertide (Boarhide Bindery) @badgertide.bsky.social · 24/06/2025
So how was Trump able to build power between terms while he wasn't even in office. Sorry, but this is bullshit and it's going to get us killed. The Democrats are the second largest political organization on the entire planet. They have power. They just don't want to use it.

It's a time-consuming and labor-intensive process, but I do love sewing endbands. Once you get a rhythm going, there are basically no rules. Plan things out, make things perfectly symmetrical, or throw balance to the wind. It will look good in the end.

Cloth bookmarks. Ribbon ain't gonna cut it this time. Used heat'nbond to get double-sided soft cloth. Bookcloth is too crunchy for this kind of application.

#44 Yellow Playing around with a different binding style. I deeply dislike case binding and yet I've spent years doing it. So I'm trying something new to make sturdy, large-format books that open easily.
A large yellow book with black fabric corners. The book is bound in cork fabric

Accidentally cut the cloth turn-ins too aggressively, but it's no big deal. A quick patch and no one will ever know my secret...
The cloth is cut at an angle and distance that would leave a sliver of grey board exposed after pasting down. But a small patch at the corner will fix this issue. After pasting down the corners, you can't tell that anything is wrong

#43 Pastoralia I think I love cork as a covering material. It's not as toolable as leather and it doesn't pare very well, but it's soft and warm and it just feels great to touch. What I DON'T like is case binding. I think I might never do a case binding ever again.
A half leather, half cork book with a printed cover. The book is brown with a picture of a caveman staring at a vending machine.

#42 Meditations Playing with hollow spines and glued-on boards. Not sure I love the techniques yet, but I think this one came out all right. Good enough to send out into the world.
A half-leather bound book with orange and blue marbled paper covers. The book is Meditations by Marcus Aurelius.

Experimenting with graphite edges for a new project. I've tried this before, but it's never really worked out. This time I mixed the graphite with paste and it seems to be working out a lot better

#36-40 Wrap-up for this year's book spree. My theme this year is "Faux Leather". Didn't get as many books done as I wanted, but it was still educational. From left to right, we have cork fabric, stained cork, grape leather, cactus leather, and "premium" cactus leather. I'll put titles on 'em later.

Please, please archive your work. Please. I’ve recently been saving lots of my essays as pdfs just so the Internet doesn’t suddenly delete them all (this happened to a whole load of blogs I wrote for The Independent years ago). I don’t want you to wake up and suddenly find your work gone like I did.
