Richard @backyardcritic.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I am filled with dread this morning, admitting to myself that I have lied to some of you in this community. I have to be honest with you all, I really hate The Ghost and Mr. Chicken! There, I said it! My terrible truth is exposed! Yeah I’ll still watch it on Svengoolie tonight. 010
Richard @backyardcritic.bsky.social · 05/05/2026Mother's Day week on Backyard Movie Critic: movies I watched with my mom. She's been gone since 2008. No plans. I'd wander in, and ask What is this? She never dumbed it down. Those afternoons shaped how I see film. We both loved: 000
Richard @backyardcritic.bsky.social · 04/05/2026Movies that Made Me Love Horror Movies: Friday night, 1980s, watching this, eating pizza, vcr humming. We had a pact. If one of us ever turned into a zombie, the others would do what needed to be done. Middle school friendships hit different watching Dawn of the Dead. 000
Richard @backyardcritic.bsky.social · 03/05/2026Movies that Made Me Love Movies: My wife and I saw this in college with a group of friends. We went to dinner after and talked for hours. A worldwide pandemic? Impossible! A great night, great friends, and a movie that sparked exactly the kind of conversations only the best films can, we loved: 010
Richard @backyardcritic.bsky.social · 03/05/2026Some friends just love great movies. I was lucky to have a couple of them. We caught this one at 1am on HBO, many years again, two and a half hours long, up all night marveling at it. One of the most amazing stories ever told on film. We were both completely fascinated. 030
Richard @backyardcritic.bsky.social · 02/05/2026Movies that Made Me Love Movies: In 1986 I watched Geraldo Rivera open Al Capone's Vault. He found nothing, but I became obsessed with mobsters. Got this one from Columbia House, told my mom it was a mistake. Watched it over and over. My comfort film. I was bonkers for: 161
Richard @backyardcritic.bsky.social · 29/04/2026The Lost Boys gave us permission to be reckless. We hung from an actual train bridge because of that movie. 60 feet. Six-foot-deep river. Pizza after. Rite of passage. Pure Gen X. #HorrorMoviesThatMadeMe 060
