Being Canadian, I am not surprised to see that my dialect is closest to border states but still only 53% matches. Yet those right across the river from me are much less similar!

Here's my grandma's if you want to try it!

Grandma Sutherland's cucumber relish. Ingredients: 7 large cucumbers and 5 onions. Grind onions and cucumbers. Stir in 1/4 cup salt, cover with water. Sit overnight. Drain off brine. In a large pot mix the cucumber mixture with 1 cup vinegar, 3 cups white sugar, 1 cup water, 1/2 cup flour, 1 teaspoon turmeric, 1 teaspoon ginger, dash of cayenne pepper, and celery seed to preference. Boil 10 minutes. Pour into sterilised jars. Seal. Process 10 to 15 minutes in boiling water.

Relish making has begun. This process always brings memories of my grandmother's. I use her recipe and her old-fashioned meat grinder to prep the vegetables. I used to help turn the crank when I was young. My cucumber mixture is soaking in brine. Tomorrow the cooking and canning begins! 🥒🫙👩‍🌾

My garden is blooming in multiple hues. But it is eerily low on pollinators. The bergamot is usually emitting a noisy hum from multiple species, but there are only a handful of bees. 👩‍🌾🌸🐝🦋

I love my CSA, so I spent the morning helping with a weeding bee at Vintage Soil Farm. And we were spoiled with lunch AND a load of beautiful fresh veggies to bring home! 🥕🧅🥬🐴👩‍🌾
