No one seems to notice or care. You lay your head against Mark's chest again and relax, listening to the sound of the game and the grown-ups' conversation, but not paying much attention. It's mostly just soothing background noise for you now. You hold Spike tighter. You're feeling sleepy.

You accepted the modest allowance...and the diapers, the supervision, the preschool shows, the pacifiers, the baths, all of it. You've become so immersed in your role you find you can't really turn it off. Mommy and Daddy don't seem to mind, in fact they seem to prefer it. Tonight was a big test.

They added more and more restrictions, they parented you more with each passing day. By the time they introduced the diapers you weren't even that surprised. Part of you knew you could just leave. Was free room and board really worth living like a toddler nearly full-time? But you didn't leave.
