I genuinely hate this trend. Save for a handful of breakouts, it has become super derivative and, I think, detrimental to the landscape in the same way as live service games, deck builders and Balatro-likes.

Despite the repetitive combat, I am really enjoying South of Midnight. It reminds me a lot of Psychonauts 2 in places. It has a super rich atmosphere, helped along by the incredible sound design, and of course the soundtrack - which has to be up there with the best of the year.
