When your sense of self is stemming from the everyday cascade of feelings and thoughts you cannot know true rest. It means you have not recognized yourself in stillness and your identity is hung upon active cognizing. Rest becomes impossible because it's something you must initiate and maintain.

Have you ever tried not knowing? Like to know nothing at all. That may sound like a closing of the mind, or perhaps a resignation into meaninglessness. However it's actually an opening of the mind. It's a shift from perception to reception. Continued contact rather than closing into conclusions.

We cannot bring our fulll faculties to bear upon something unless we've named it and built some frameworks around it. When it comes to being human, our conventional material ideas leave much unaccounted for. To properly know onself form the inside out we need spiritual ideas.

As I get deeper into christian mysticism I see that so much of what's good about it, is kinda veiled until you're inside it. Much of what it's teaching you how to perceive from within relationship with God. Which can't be fully understood at the level of concepts alone.

Lowkey I feel like our conditioning has us internalize a 3rd person perspective. All of what we're taught about ourselves is what others can see. We form a self largely composed of external observations. Meanwhile our interiority, our inner sense and perspective gets veiled by knowledge of 'Me'.

Part of the reason I got into Christian Mysticism is I felt pulled towards a devotional path. Having tasted true nature, I had gotten to a point in my path of being exhausted by the phantom pressure efforting towards effortless effort. I knew love was another way forward.

Coming from Zen I think it's cool that in Christian mysticism we're told that we're not alone, we are known. Most radically that God is sharing in our burdens. Thats a kind of support that can go unrecognized, but the more I tune into it, the more I find I can lean into it.

Spirituality is a real axis of human being. If we deny that then the need itself doesn’t disappear. We just end up looking to things like money, sex, fame, status, drugs, politics, or even other people to satisfy an unnamed hunger.

People will willingly and enthusiastically section themselves off by ideology. Ideas by their conception naturally oppose their opposites and people will joyfully participate in that opposition. It’s easy to lose sight of ourselves and become proxy’s for a fight between ideas…

Mystic ease One thing it’s very easy to do is live from the level of one’s own projections. The constant filling in of the other persons mental state feelings, and intentions. So often the unease we feel is from our own projections/assessments of others.

I have been seeing when ones sense of self is rooted in their thougthts and feelings that it's hardly rooted at all. The foundation of who I am is based in shifting ground. Self conception, that is a sense of self sourced from my experience of myself. A cascade of waiting and relating.

Yesterday I came home irritable and stressed. I didnt want to leak that out on to others. Then it kinda hit me this was what I had prayed for an oppertunity to grow, learn and abide. So i welcomed my discontent, and I did so without expecting or needing it to go away.

Christian nationalism doesn’t ultimately make sense on Christian terms. Being a Christian, if it is real, is already enough. Otherwise you end up with a bunch of un-transformed people trying to change others without having brought themselves into the light.

Look at Job, in him we see the most devil afflicted man in scripture and he spends zero verses on the devil. That's because his gaze is entirely occupied by the one he's actually with. Thats the kind of attention I am cultivating. I will sleep in the storm as I know who I'm with.

People balk at "cheap grace" they want it to cost something. They don't realize price has already been paid. And living a life feeling disconnected and unaware of that which fascilitates your very existence from atom, to mind, is it's own hell.

Interestingly, the cross isn’t God’s demand, it’s God’s exposure to our demand. He puts himself inside the reach of the grasping hand and the grasping hand does what it does. The blood isn’t a payment God required; it’s the visible evidence of what we are when Love stands in front of us unarmed.

All of existence is speaking for itself… as itself. Perceptions pronounced over that with what we “know”. It is possible to simply receive. When we are free of thoughts about what is the world doesn’t melt into meaninglessness. That which inspires all meaning is revealed as self-evident.

There is always and already a flow to all that is. Our static and stable ideas of that can rob us of the sense of that momentum and frame us as the primary agentic force. In that we cast ourselves as Atlas holding our lives together doing this or that.

Hearts are made to be broken.. one of my teachers told me that you have to let the whole word break your heart. If we close off to protect the heart then we lose access to it, we feel only walls we’ve built around it.

The problem of evil is rooted more in perspective than anything else. Only humans are really capable of it, and only we can really recognize it. We can see it so easily because it is a betrayal of who and what we are at our core. There's not a neat answer that will absolve it.

When we talk about the Earth in many ways we are also talking about human being as they are deeply interrelated. God is like this, and this can be seen in a way that is humbling. So that one says things like everything good in me comes from God.

A lot of how people frame God and Christianity is deeply legal. Formulaic. Structured in a logic and rigidity that doesn't seem present in the world as it is. The natural world just doesn't cooperate with that framing. Your body is an act of ongoing creative generosity, not legal compliance.
