Makes sense since the light is only civilization-defining in huge quantities, and the algae might also die out after a time so it only really works when kept close to the source or in a huge quantity

What if they do a Venice thing though with canals, so homes can be lit with a small channel of water that flows through their floors

You know, I had a thought. Would fire be a thing? You have an unlimited light source where everyone lives and no need to cook food for nutrition, so would firemaking develop like *at all* as a result?

Which also probably means everyone glows at least a bit after eating. Maybe they call rich people who can afford food "dimbellies" because they don't drink the algae or something.

Actually... if stars are still present then maybe they'd be the way you navigate on land, the further you get from the coastline. But because of the light pollution nobody who lives near the coast has actually seen them before, so they're poorly studied and an urban legend for most

Yeah definitely, but then it does also make sea travel fairly hazardous without a compass since you can't use celestial bodies to navigate. And being exposed to constant bright light on the open water might drive people crazy...

Wow that's a hell of a discount. Not the BEST headset, and it has a number of structural design issues that can be an issue for long-term use, but it IS extremely portable for a VR headset. The face/eye tracking module is impossible to find now though.

Honestly I've been chasing that Oculus Rift dragon for all these years. No other headset has matched it for comfort so far, though some have come close. I'm just hoping Frame is the next One True Headset.

Video compression test didn't give me a lot of macro blocking which was my main concern, color depth seemed fine but the QPro's local dimming is... questionable so it's not a great test of that anyway. Didn't see any benefits for latency but it at least didn't seem worse.
