![Specks of dust floated in the beam of sunlight that shone through a clouded window. The rounded toes of Jungkook's boots rested in the rectangle of yellow it left on the greying carpets. Leather-cuffed forearms crossed over his chest, he leaned against the peeling wallpaper plastering the small office.
A steady ticking echoed from a clock hung on the wall opposite him. Jungkook lazily raised his gaze. The slow-moving hands were just visible from under the wide brim of his hat.
After the noisemaker made a full rotation around the clock's face, Jungkook's attention fell to the unoccupied desk in the center of the room. On one side: a cushy armchair, saddle leather worn and cracked on its seat. Two smaller, less assuming chairs sat on the other side, pulled out slightly to welcome their visitor.
Jungkook refused the invitation.
Today's newspaper was left open atop the desk, obscuring the dents and notches Jungkook knew were embedded in the wood beneath.
His head tilted slightly as he made out the upside-down headline.
