The harness comes off as soon as she can consistently sit and stay, and yes, she's an absolute angel about it. About it all. She's hands-down the easiest dog I've ever had; sweet as apple pie. And Axel really needs another dog in his life.

This is pretty much Cocoa's corner of the bed now. She hops up without my being aware of it, even when I'm inches away. Not even the cats can pull off ninja moves like that.

She's definitely everyone's designated helper. She's very eager to lend a hand, even when she doesn't have the faintest idea what's going on. She's the kind of dog who cheerfully circles the perimeter of the situation offering moral support.

BIG steps forward this weekend. Cocoa now has her harness on and is taking walks with Axel! It's a lot of energy, chat, but this little girl goes from uncertain to joyful the minute she gets out there.

"Cocoa" is now in her 2nd week with us. She trails me around the apartment and stays close while I work, though she's still skittish about my touching her. It's a strange comparison to Axel, who is much more shy, but has no problems with scratches and cuddles. Happy Friday from the 3 of us!

I've started calling her "Cocoa," and it's still informal until she bonds and lets me leash her. RN, she's trailing behind me about 5 feet wherever I go in the house, but she won't let me come closer. When that changes, I'll move on getting her licensed and spayed.

Extremely well. She's still a little skittish of me, but she's making much faster progress than Axel did on that front (we're only at the end of week 2 with her), and there have been zero problems between them. It's looking more and more like she's here to stay.

She might have been wandering a while, and that her owners might not think to look this far afield. She's in the local alert system now, so we'll see. No current reports of any lost dogs matching her description atm. The cats are pretty good with it. You can see Blondie under the bed in the pic.

In the meantime, she’s our honored guest. She and Axel are getting along, and she’s already following me around the apartment wherever I go. Whatever her future holds, she’s reached safe haven, and we’ll get her to her happy ending, whatever that happens to be for her. 8/8

Today is a holiday in the U.S., but tomorrow I will call the vet’s and get her checked out. She’s VERY skinny – eating like a horse – and one of her eyes is a little weepy. It looks like she hasn’t been spayed either, and if we need to do that I might start Go Fund Me to cover the costs. 7/🧵

The shelter will let me know if anyone comes in asking for her, and that’s the go-to move in this neighborhood. So until and unless someone claims her, I’m starting to consider our options if she’s been abandoned (i.e., no one is coming for her). 4/🧵

I also live about five blocks from my local animal shelter, and they have her info too. The call has gone out, and will stay out. We know she doesn’t belong to anyone in my apartment complex. There are no missing pet signs in the neighborhood and no one wandering around with a leash. 3/🧵

She’s very sweet and good-natured, and while she’s still skittish, she’s warming up very quickly. There’s far less trauma with her than with Axel. We’re actively looking for any possible owners, which includes pictures and posts on various Lost My Doggy sites. 2/🧵

UPDATE ON OUR GUEST: Our sweet friend has spent the last two days with us. It rained buckets yesterday, so I’m very glad we were able to get her into the house and under cover. She’ll stay with Axel and I until she gets her forever home, whatever that happens to be. 1/🧵

I am keeping her and figuring things out. She's getting along well with everyone, at least so far. And it's been raining all day so I'm VERY glad she's been inside with us! We'll get her to a forever home, whatever that might be. No shelters.

Right now, they're pretty indifferent to each other. There have been a couple of mutual nose-sniffings with no drama, however. Things are very copacetic. She's a very sweet-natured dog, and everyone is getting along.

She does not. Just a collar. My apartment complex sits next to an open field, so it's entirely possible she was abandoned. She may also have wandered in from quite a ways off, and any owners may still be looking. We'll get her to her forever home, whatever that happens to be. ❤️
