The most dreaded thing at the Bee is the bell, which means it's probably not the best thing to turn into a pendant/keychain. However, it is what I made this year. I continue to be in awe at the spellers at the Bee. They are all so amazing. Congratulations to Shrey Parikh!

In 2025, I made a bunch of tiny bee earrings, which I then gave out to family and friends.

In 2024, I made a napkin ring to look like a honey pot a la Winnie-the-Pooh, though since this was in honor of the spelling bee, I opted to spell "honey" correctly.

In 2023, I made a trophy with the words "I fought the Schwa" on it. The slogan is from Peter Sokolowski from M-W. My sibling and I accidentally competed in a spelling bee that he was judging and after he said it again at the event, my sibling and I wrote a parody song for it. youtu.be/rk3PB40CbPQ

And basically done! (I just need to back it on wood so she can hang it up.)

Getting closer! I have about 2" left to finish and I want to see if I can make the telescope look better.

This week's update! (Since this is smaller than I anticipated, I probably could have done this width all at once, but that's what happens when you're making it all up as you go! 😅)

The piece is going to be a bit shorter than I planned, but I'm done with the height (by my sister's-in-law request) and I'm about to start the width!

I haven't posted an update in awhile, so here's the latest version. I think I have about 18 rows left to do for the height if I make it a 4x6, more if I go for a 5x7.

I've been busy with holidays, the spelling bee, and making flowers so I didn't have a lot of time to work on this project, but I did get to bead a bit more so here's the latest (I still have 2-3 more inches to go in height before I can add to the width):

Luckily, then I realized that someone must have done this already and it must be online somewhere and luckily lots of people have, so thanks to everyone out there for that! I used one of the templates to sew all the triangles into the pattern. 7/8

2) While making a triangle is pretty quick work (~1 hour), making 20 of them is not.But it's all good. I had my triangles. 5/9
7 green triangles each with a different white number, all made of seed beads. The triangles are in two rows. The top row from left to right have the numbers 20-17 and the bottom row have 16-14. They are on a wooden table. There is various pieces of threads coming out of all the triangles.

1) Did I make sure to figure out the math to ensure that they could be equilateral triangles when I sew them together? No, of course not. Was it even possible to get enough precision, given the way the beads were shaped? Probably not. Did I give that more than a moment's thought? Ha. 4/9

Finally, I added the handle of a spoon. (It could also be a straw, I guess, depending on whether your beverage of choice is actually a cola or something.)

I knew I wanted a handle on the mug and was debating which stitch I wanted to use. I ended up going with the spiral stitch because a) it’s easy and b) it seemed like a more fun option for the mug. I also made the handle with shades of blue because I was feeling like the rest of the mug was too red.
