I’ve made an old-school-style map for a Torchbearer solo game. It is rather influenced by an odd Mediterranean scenery. More info in the alt text.

Mountain passes and sharp coastal lines have been sculpted by geological action, making what appears to be a lake in the south actually deeper than what appears to be a sea to the east. To the west is a vast desert, while to the northwest lies a fertile but remains uninhabited. However, there are communities along the eastern and southern shores, and parts of the area's historic roads are no longer in use.

The most prolific ttrpg labels. Our tastes may be subjective, and yet they are manufactured by objective conditions. I find uncomfortably convenient that those conditions benefit from both producing and consuming slop. Somehow, it seems we’ve praised dismantling the ability to imagine NEW games.

FSCSAW is one of my favourite RPGs, and I wish I play it more often. It's a bit of a double-edged sword though. I love how deep all its subsystems are, but at the same time I feel overwhelmed due to its vast potential. Mind you, I realise that's a failing on my part, not a flaw in its design.

Four softcover books from the For Small Creatures Such as We solo and co-op sci-fi roleplaying game line are arranged on a wooden table. The main core rulebook sits at the top with artwork of a planet in space. Below it are three expansion books: Love & Lust Expansion with a glowing heart on a starry background, A Guide to Fauna Expansion with a colourful abstract creature-inspired design, and War! Expansion featuring a spacecraft in combat.

My problem is that, although I know how to set those margins manually to 12 mm on the inside (it’s the first thing I select when creating a new document), I can’t really visualise how it affects the final result. Will be something like this?

#AviationDay On a 12th April, the son of a carpenter risked his life for us and ascended to the heavens. In memoriam of Yuri Gagarin, who up there said: "Orbiting Earth in the spaceship, I saw how beautiful our planet is. People, let us preserve and increase this beauty, not destroy it!" (1/3)

On 12 April 1961 Yuri Gagarin became the first man to go into outer space. The mission lasted 108 minutes aboard the Vostok 1 spacecraft.

Shortly afterwards we saw him heading straight towards the first pages, some seventy pages away. Even if we caught him and brought him back to other osr games he would inmediately head right back for those 500 pages... but why?

I came to these lands as—most ardently—a solo player, and I recently wrote about KNIGHT (2023) by Mark Beren. a-wizard-in-calafia.bearblog.dev/when-a-wizar... Perhaps I should attempt a solo game of its Great PenLlew Campaign using a map I made last year, inspired by old britons territories.

A composition I made; an edited version of Le Chevalier aux fleurs (The Knight of the Flowers), a 1894 oil painting by French artist Georges Rochegrosse (1859–1938). The illustration shows a young knight in armor standing in a lush meadow filled with flowers, surrounded by several women in flowing, colorful dresses. Overlaid text in large yellow and white fonts reads: “The Great PenLlew Campaign” and below it, “a scenario of KNIGHT by Mark Beren”.

My own Avalon interpretation I made after reading KNIGHT. A grayscale map with soft color overlays depicts three regions labeled as kingdoms. The northern area, shaded bluish, is “Kingdom of Stathclyde” (Old Strathclyde region in Scotland and North-West region of England). The central green region is “Kingdom of Caemlyn” (Wales and part of the Mid-west Midlands) with locations labeled “Dyrinyf” (North-west Wales), “Astolat” (East Wales and north of Mid-west Midlands) and “Ceredyn” (South of Wales). The southern purple-toned region is “Kingdom of Lyriu” (South-west region of England). The map features mountains, forests, rivers, coastlines, and the outer territories are covered by clouds.
