#Etsy is updating their listing image requirements to combat the flood of slop that’s getting posted. Now every listing will need an actual, real photo. Most of my printed miniature competitors only show a 3d rendering, and never actually print pieces until […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

Last week I half-jokingly mentioned that the ArtCraft “AI clean-room” implementation of popular paid apps skipped Microsoft Access. Turns out, one is in the works. The plan is for full .accdb database file compatibility, plus a migration option to move […] [Original post on mastodon.social]
Screenshot from Discord. Text reads:

Compatibility Mode:
Recreating ACE 16-12, JET 4-1 profiles (Yeah we getting FULL compatibility if I can help it, I love preserving old software) with full read/write/query coverage
Making a whole separate project for a cross-platform VBA parser/runtime in rust that tries to replicate the behavior of windows only API calls in VBA by shimming the APIs and if needed deferring to Wine
Aiming for the ability to write Access db files that you can easily open in the real Access so you aren't locked out from your coworkers/classmates
Full Access built-in functions compatibility
Sign in with Microsoft for Sharepoint and other external data sources that you cannot move easily

TableCraft format:
A program native .tcraft format that gives up the ability to open it in MS Access, and there will be a .accdb to .tcraft conversion tool if you do not need your data to be opened outside of this program
No vendor lock in because if you open it its just an SQLite backend, with Python scripting because SQL cannot do everything, I'm not sure if you thought I'd be not supporting the Access builtins library, but I will make sure that syntax is still available on top of SQLite.
Python is really the only answer to what can replace VBA, it can be embedded, it is the most portable scripting language ever, it is extremely capable and can talk to OS APIs, and everyone and their mother knows it
More extensibility and capabilities, because its just sqlite and you can have lots of plugins on it like vector search and stuff like that
